News Lumix S9 - new camera rumor roundup

Yes, but it is also fun to spend the waiting time with a lot of guessing. That is normal behaviour of Lumix fans (or whatever the brandname is).

Less than 24 hours left...

I am really excited to get soon the answers to our questions. I am sure that Richard is in the final editing phase for his S9 review.

I am curious what the S9 will bring on the table compared to the Sigma fp. Especially regarding rolling shutter, artificial light, screen quality in harsh sunlight, usability of the body (two hand operation only?) etc.

Maybe also a comparison to other cameras without viewfinder, which have the same target group if we are talking about photography only. Something like the Ricoh GR3/GR3x.

If that camera is not for you or me, we always have to think like a sport team after it has lost a match.

Finally a full back view:

So, as expected, a small thumb wheel. There's also space for the thumb which should hopefully help with the ergonomics a bit. Picture also confirms a cold shoe. And obvioulsy, despite what SIRUI's photoshop expert might have imagined, no viewfinder.

Beyond that I also found this little gem. The page has been around for a while, but this probably gives us a small impression of what to expect in terms of LUT support: https://lumix-base.jpn.panasonic.com/color-lab/

Kinda wondering why this was never available in the West.. or did I miss it? Either way, since I have a Japanese phone number, I tried out a few of their LUTs on my S5II and they look quite good. But I really hope the S5II will get support for the LUT app, because adding all this stuff to MyPhotoStyle is a bit fiddly.

This is Really a Gem, thank you! Tonight I'll downloading them all and I'm going to try them in Davinci Resolve!

I like how it looks, and if 4K/10bit/25p can be for at least an half hour I might still be interested.... When the prices dropped a little.
It does look marvelous though!

It looks you do get the lens for free when you buy the camera!

This might be the body I need for traveling, damn. But I really doubt the Ibis would be as efficient as the S5ii(x) in such a small body.

Don't worry, found it. This is no way a camera for me. All the following are complete deal-breakers:

- Single control wheel
- No EVF
- No flash

And I'm not wild about:

- Poor grip
- No dedicated buttons for ISO etc
- No mode dial

I'm not hating the camera - I'm sure it'll be perfect for some people, but just not for me.

I feel a bit the same. I’m indifferent about it. Only the spec of the 18-40 kind of interest me. I have the GR3, without evf, but that is a trade off that I’m willing to make because it fits in my trousers. And otherwise excellent ergonomics

But why f/8?!
F/4 or even f/5.6 would be so useful, and probably doable at this size.
Only reason i can think of, is to make MF 'easier'.
Still VERY underwhelming of a lens, regardless of the results; too limited.

My guess is because of price (margin) and size.

$200 as the base price for a 26mm f8 mf lens.. I was expecting more like $75

These are just numbers on paper to make it a very good offer if you get it now for free. Makes the camera look 200 USD cheaper ;)

Besides all the downsides, I'm still interested. My biggest struggle is the E-shutter only thing. Everything else wouldn't be a big issue for me. I'm looking forward to the reviews and how Panasonic will manage the downsides of the E-shutter.

But I honestly don't care about the 26mm pancake lens. Maybe we will get some discount in Europe instead of a free lens.
