Been busy getting ready for and then working advance voting for the November election, but did manage a few moments to try out a new acquisition, a Nikon 105/4 Macro (Ai version):

(Hey, no one said you had to use a Macro lens just for macro shots...)

On the whole, while the Micro-Nikkor was usable with the fp, it was hard to hold steady; the S5 was a more comfortable platform.

Nice work! Really smooth and detailed footage.

That wind appeared to be gale force! I love being outdoors but not in a wind like that!!

I enjoyed it, it was a cosy 14C as the storm came from the SW direction. Otherwise I've been frozen in mid summer on the north Atlantic coast with a north wind.

I'm quite steady but the wind blasts in places were mental and I had to walk diagonally.

I haven't had a wash yet so I'm still salty with a proportion of raw sewage no doubt

It's mad that loads of people throughout the world have never seen a coast, sea or ocean. It's good to have it so close but I'm looking for a place in remote NW Ireland beside the Atlantic and true landscape heaven and dark skies... Bortle 2-3 darkness and the Sigma 14 f1.4 for it. The storms up there are something else and endless places for photography that haven't yet been done, unfortunately by the time I'll get one the solar max causing these amazing aurora will largely be gone. But it's good regardless.

You mean no IBIS... Yeah nightmare!

I used to have Pentax APSC with 300mm prime and 60-250. Whilst it had IBIS it had none through the finder but it was good foundation and now with dual IS in 24-105 and 70-300 it is amazing.

Yeah not using it for macro... I'm happy with 0.5x macro with my Lumix zooms, no real want for more but the prime I'd like is the Lumix 100 f2.8 for the 3d pop and rendering it does, as well as small and so light. It has the Leica look.

Those images you took look promising, on a Lumix camera will give you a better time but like I said it's good training but I did mine on 4.5x again.

As for having to MF the like of your Nikkor I couldn't be bothered with that after years of it. The 8 way joystick on the S5ii just nails it quicker and the MF aid is there if I do want it on the focus ring. I'm still learning the camera and it is there when I unintentionally move the ring and with magnification.

Sunday's storm "Ashley" in 4k so make sure to select 4k in settings - quality and a big screen like my 48" OLED

First time using iMovies software, little 8GB M1 Mac mini is a power house for stitching all of these together then transcoding.

I enjoyed filming the storm plus a few stills, S5ii & 24-105 f4 are still covered in sea salt

Landscape colour profile, originally filmed in c4k 422 25p...

Very interesting video. I wonder what you use as a microphone in such windy conditions? Do you use an external microphone with a dead cat or the internal one from the camera itself? Have you used some kind of wind noise reduction in post?
