*** October 2024 Image and Video Thread ***

As an aside, I just realised that Sony cameras don't have Live Composite. Now all my musing about the A7Cii/A7CR can be forgotten. Live Comp is a deal breaker for me.

Amazing aurora earlier, so many photographers where I went. This was the storm, just back at 3am frozen at the coast so I can't post until tomorrow maybe.

At last used a tripod with S5ii, a new Manfrotto one and new ball head which was excellent for panning and fine tuning. 1000020592.jpg

After a hot bath and thawed out this is the 3rd taken and only have looked at, SooC jpeg. Took 179 in 3 1/2 hours... Freezing  but camera was great 1st time Aurora landscapes with this S5ii and Samyang 14mm f2.8... f2.8 all of them._1011460 (2).jpg

Portmuck (what a terrible name) beach strewn with washed up seaweed provided a nice texture for the aurora. The bright lights are the public toilets which got turned off later on. This is a lovely little place and feels like old Ireland and Bortle 4 sky whilst only 22 miles from mental Belfast Daumenhoch _1011590 (1).jpg

I'm wondering why you chose f8. 11mm everything will be in focus regardless, anyway great to see you doing astro

Aurora move fast, they dance. I got down to using 5sec ISO 3200 f2.8 to capture finer details. It gives the nod to me lusting the Sigma 14 f1.4 where for same exposure could have done 1.25sec and captured more distinct aurora with more details and especially in the spikes.

Even without aurorae you have moonlit long exposures and you can add light painting with a torch.

But we were spoilt with this event, hopefully there will be more soon then nothing much for 11 years.
