Rumors New cameras on October 8th?

Well, time will tell.

I was looking at the DPR exposure latitude test site and comparing the S1R with the Q3 43, which I assume will have the same sensor as any new S1Rii - and TBH there is vanishingly little difference between them. I looked at the +5EV push test, so it's a fairly tough test:

Both clean up very well with a little bit of LR's AI NR:

The S1R images look significantly better for me. There is more noise, but you still see the details. Actually, the Leica images look not as sharp at all.

I do not understand why they choose a 90mm in that comparison.

Yeah, but the lens used on the S1R is the Leica 90mm Summicron. That lens costs almost as much as the Q3 !

They try to use a 90mm lens in all the tests, but of course, the Q3 43 is, well, 43mm !

The question would be, whether this is because of the lens or because of a too heavy noise reduction in the Leica Q3 43?

I do not have a S1R, otherwise I would make a quick side by side shot

I'll be in Germany (nr Schöneck) w/c Nov 4th. Perhaps we could meet up? :)

ok, on that compariosn the S5 (24MP) with the Lumix 50/1.4 look as sharp as the S1R (46MP) with the very expensive Leica 90mm.

That sais all about the leica lens I guess... Teufel Grinsend Schwanz

Yessssss! Z04 Herz

Is this 61137 Schöneck? This is only around 70km away. We could meet there. More details via PM

I think you're memory stretched out the time frame between first leaks about the S5II and the announcement. The rumors about the S5II started around Christmas 2022 and the announcement was a January 4th 2023. That's not even two weeks.
Yeah, but we’re two days away and basically there is nothing tangible out there.

So, something thoroughly underwhelming: an updated entry level S5 (the rumoured S5D), the 18-40, and firmware updates to make the S5ii(x) compatible with Lumix Lab.

Just the firmware updates make me thorough excited :p

the rumoured S5D
How cheap could this be? I think the body only S5 is now sold out on Panasonic UK direct website but with a voucher it only cost £680-£720 depending on 10% or 15% voucher.

Arguably the S5ii, 20-60, 50 and 85 deal recently for £1640 with voucher was a more stonking deal and their aggressive deals definitely have pulled x amount of newcomers into L-mount, many of them from phone videographers who want much better IQ.

Therefore I'm not sure a non-PDAF S5D would pull many new customers into L-mount. The video/hybrid performance is definitely the factor in pulling most new trade it seems from discussions on, for example, hotukdeals website.

Panasonic needs a hit in the form of a Sony A7C2 type camera. With the same dimensions, weight and slightly lower price. And maybe then the masses will pay attention to the L mount

If they were going to do an A7C2, they'd have done it with the S9.

Could be true or not. There can be various reasons why they launched the S9 "beforehand". Agreements with Leica (Leica just introduced the Leica Q3 43 and the normal Q3 is only 18 months old), problems with specific parts, quality control, production problems for high capacities or they just wanted to test the water beforehand with a product with a lower price tag. We will never know...

? They have the S9. What difference would that make? Definitely not masses jumping to L-mount.

? У них есть S9. Какая разница? Определенно не для масс, переходящих на L-mount.
I don't think the S9 is a competitor to Sony C2. Sony camera is a standard camera with which you can use any lenses in size. The S9 is a special camera, let's say, for use with small lenses such as 18-40 or sigma I

Both are roughly the same size and weight, no difference regarding lens attached. Only significant difference is the tiny EVF... For me they're essentially the same idea.

Go and stick a 150-600 on that Sony and peer through the tiny finder :p
