Col Du Vam? :p

Yip why have primes?
VAM is a landfill company. At one point they covered a landfill area with different layers of organic material and earth on top. The waste below produces 5000m3 of natural gas daily which is upgraded and injected into the Dutch gas system. The gas that can’t be upgraded is burned directly to generate electricity. In 2020 on top of the man made hills they created a quite demanding cycling trail which is since used for the national cycling championship, and one European championship. The reference “Col du VAM” is coming from the Tour de France where they have to climb a lot of (natural) Cols (actually mountains ). Like the reference of 4800cm height, 48m. . That is the maximum difference in height of the trail. The hill it self is 63m. The trail has inclines of 13%. NAP means “Normaal Amsterdams Peil”. Our average sea level as measured there, our official 0m point. We have to define what zero is because we have a lot of areas below that point, but different story. My Garmin Fenix watch recorded 60m on top of the hill.

We hardly have hills in our country. 30min by car south of my house there are natural hills from the ice age of 60-90m
@Nevyn72 has to drive >1.5 hours to actually find a hill this high or higher for example . The highest point/“mountain“ is in the south, 3+ hrs for me by car. Almost the maximum time needed to cross the Netherlands from north to south anyway

Primes are for fun, indoors and cellphones, and photography had to start somewhere…

While playing with the 24-105 in the garden / on the decking at the small canal at my garden I saw the Moorhen with chicks who visited my feeder often during the winter. The shore on the opposite of the canal is very very dark so had to up the blacks/shadows a lot. 100% crop. They often hide behind the plants. waterhoen_crop.jpg

There was a nice sunset last saturday here in Austria. I did not manage to try to photograph the auroras in the night... but I was able to take a couple of pictures before:

I got the humour 100% no explanation required, I used to be a racer myself, been to watch the grand tours, and went to Valkenburg to watch the world champs, exactly where you talk about in the south with natural hills.

Anyway somerimes there is a bigger story behind a simple sign with humour. And it is a fun story for those who have never been to this flat country. I liked your reaction and that maybe a bit of explanation behind it is fun too.

Very nice!

This is about the best I could get, which wasn't very good:

I was hoping the trees would be a good reference, but they were catching too much backlight, and I need to use the big tripod instead of a pocket one on the car roof. :(

Got this from the phone while I was testing to see if I'd made it far enough north:

Crap for details, but I liked the colors; they were gone by the time I finished setting up the S5, though.

My camera used to be in an accident begin may, and so I did send It for repair. Than the northern lights came on Friday, and I could cry I didn't had my camera. So I went to the windmills of kinderdijk and gave it a try with my iPhone 13 mini to get at least some shots. and luckily the phone picked it up perfectly.

Snapshot of a friend of mine at a birthday party. Showcasing my new lazy processing - camera profile natural and click "auto" in photoshop. Then do a few minor tweaks. I did run it through AI denoise just for fun.

Today (ok Yesterday, it's after midnight) my wife and I went to Amsterdam, to have a good time and for me to test my two new lenses
(Lumix 28-200mm and the Sigma 16-28).

I made a small impression video of it:

All shot on the Lumix S5iiX and these two lenses, colorgraded in Davinci Resolve.

Very nicely done Nevyn!

Did you swap lenses much during the day?

Thank you.

No I mainly used the 28-200mm, only used the 16-28 in a few tight spots but these where close together. I only swapped lenses twice (from the 28-200 to the 16-28 and than back).

So... mentioned a few days ago that the Empress was coming to Kansas City, and there seemed to be some interest; got over 200 pics to sort through, but thought I'd post a few that grabbed me to keep Pete happy.

...no, wait a minute. Was it this one?

This one for sure!

OK, OK. The real Empress:

Unfortunately, things were pretty busy all day, and I was never able to get a good side-on angle. :(

We did get to see one of the crew climbing around later in the afternoon... light was better then, but the sight lines were busier. <sigh>

Edit: And I think I've got a work-around for the problem with Flickr embeds. The forum instructions say to pick "original" as the resolution in the Share/BBCode dialog, but that seems to choke the editor on posting. If I pick the Large (1600x<x>) size instead, the pics go through. Hopefully that'll help Dirk track down the issue!

YES!!!! Some train photos!!! Thanks Travis!!!

These are awesome! I love the shot of the diesel loco 9375. That's a great livery (which I read about here). I am a diesel guy, having worked on them for a few years many many years ago.

It sure is notoriously difficult getting a clean photo at events like this! Sometimes you just have to embrace the crowd and make it a part of the photo, like this one.

Thanks again for posting these shots! Made my day!! Z04 Discosmilie

And thanks for posting this solution! I will give it a try.

Yeah, works for me too. Ran into a similar issue on another forum that uses the same Software
Thank you for this hint. I changed the instructions to 1600 pixel for Flickr.

Finally got out to use my new 85mm for the kind of shots I bought it for. Still did a heap of experimentation, to see just what I could get away with in terms of Aperture & subject distance, DOF & all that jazz. Much fun was had anyway
Great photos, amazing colour. That lens is a keeper.
