***May 2024 Image and video thread***

Right. Been busy, started the thread, & haven't gotten back to contribute. Lol. Anyway, my cameras don't get spared the rod. Bouncing through riverbeds, down rocky trails, over dropoffs, they get used :)
Last nights ride. On my favourite bike. Well, a couple of shots from it

A bit of architecture along the way

Today was architecture & bridge day. As I wrote previously, a week or two back I was out biking with my Daughter & her hubby, got some ideas, so today I tossed the S5 in the backpack, loaded up the pushy, went for a pedal, & shot these. Had an absolute blast. The little 14-28mm is certainly not lacking in sharpness.

Like riding down a slippery slide lol

Great images. I love #3 and #4, both have great perspective and colour.

Looking south at Stanwell Tops, 55km south of Sydney.

In the middle foreground you can see a crazy man in a hang glider who launched from the top and is making his way down to the beach.

Some more from my ride. You know it's a good ride when you spend more time stopped snapping happy snap's than actually riding Z04 KaputtlachenZ04 KaputtlachenZ04 Kaputtlachen

Hah. :) Much the same thing when you take a half-hour walking workout, that turns into 45-60 minutes because only part of it is spent walking...

I like these two in particular, the complex geometric shapes are fascinating. Where'd the second one come from?

It's the pedestrian access stairs & landings, to this bridge. I tried doing an exposure bracket, but where I was standing is actually a floating pontoon, & the trail is very heavily used so it's continuously jiggling up and down, making it impossible to get a steady series of shots in.

Neat!

And yeah, I can see where that'd be a problem. :(

Here's some of some tests shoots with the new AF and the 70-300. I use electronic shutter in burst mode in order to also test the Pre-burst mode.

I used a rabbit again in order to test it. Configuration: AF-C, animal detection (body), mode 3 (subject moves randomly).

I got some decent shoots but we can see that the AF struggled to focus at the good point. Maybe I should have tested with "Animal Detection Eye". But to be fair the rabbits are very tricky.
Example of a miss:

One ok:

A bit better but not that good IMO:

And perfect when static :D

I didn't notice that pre-burst worked, but it was selected. Also, I noticed that the camera is a bit laggy when bursting (maybe because of pre-burst). Does that happen to anybody else?

I also wanted to try AF Mode 4, but the rabbit went into the forest so I had to retrieve her. I will try another time, with the Eye detection for animals.

Thanks for that. Darn tricky rabbit. The other animal detection mode is Eye/Body. I have used that and it seemed to work well, but that was my slow moving dog. I also used Mode 3.

I think Tracking and Focusing are two separate things. Tracking tells the camera WHERE to focus, but it is up to the camera lens driver and the lens itself to actually focus. In general tracking with our cameras is fast and precise, but getting into focus can take some time. Do you have your camera set so it shows the green box that shows where the camera was focused when you display the photo? This is very helpful to know what the camera was trying to focus. For the display settings set "Magnify from AF Point" to ON.

Pre-Burst in the Burst mode worked okay for me. The problem is finding the best pictures in a hundred or whatever pictures. I use FastRawViewer for this. I read the card and just import the best images. Make sure to get the latest version which reads the Panasonic RAW files.
