***May 2024 Image and video thread***

On the original resolution, checking the plane of focus of both @300%, i also don't see any difference in sharpness...
Of course, on the above you can see the vignetting i was referring too, uncorrected.
Looks great to me.

And I didn't notice any vignetting either, was just looking at that very nice car!

You've captured some great light there! Here is Sydney it hasn't stopped raining for over a week aside from the occasional storm break for a few hours where it remains dark and cloudy.

That's impressive! Exif says 7:38pm, it must have been completely dark at that point!
Ooooops. My bad. You prompted me to check the camera, it was an hour out. Forgot to set for end of daylight savings :) It was still pretty dark at 6:30pm & a bit overcast though. Sorry about that

Ha ha , all good. I often forget to change my camera too. But 6:38pm is still very dark!

Did you see any of the aurora last night? A friend of my wife's in Ballarat got some good photos and my son in Hobart got some amazing shots with his phone. Couldn't see a thing here in Sydney with all the rain.

It was the strongest solar storm in decades, I should have drove to a place 30 miles away to capture it over the sea and Bortle 4 skies. I waited years for this too. I couldn't see it with naked eye in the city, I hate the super bright LED street lights they installed, far worse than the old yellow sodium ones.

@Pete_W : Look close and you can see the promotional banners for the Final Spike tour on the station windows. :)

And after the discussion of the Truman Library and the World War I museum the other day, stopped by there yesterday; working on the pics and will put together a separate post string (hoping breaking it up will fix the problems with shared Flickr pics).

Last night, it was cloudy and the NOAA map suggested the line was going to be a ways north - but the local paper reported this morning that it was visible quite a bit further south. :( https://www.kansascity.com/news/state/kansas/article288460479.html

May try tonight!

Yeah, lots of press don't know what they are talking about. I seen the KP index was nearly 9 and I was like OMG, aurora were visible in the Carribbean. I knew this happened in the past... The Carrington Event is really interesting even for those not into astronomy etc.

I lusted after one of these when I was in Pentax, I know you need an adapter anyway and I still have one. The story is interesting behind the Zeiss 'killer'.

Tis indeed an interesting story!

And ack. I re-checked the tags, and I goofed; that was the OM Zuiko 100/2.8. :(

These two are with the 50/1.4:

(It was pretty cloudy when I went up the tower, and the cityscape was dipping in and out of shadow; I like the way the clouds opened up and highlighted the Western Auto building in this pic.)

Pretty sharp wide-open, though you do have the DoF putting things out of focus...

He he he. The monthly image thread is going off Z04 DiscosmilieZ04 Discosmilie Five pages in already, not even half way through the month. Love it.
Anyway, I'll add some more to it.
This is mainly why I grabbed the Lumix 85mm f1.8 Small and light enough for everyday carry, fast & accurate AF, nice smooth bokeh -mostly, very reasonably priced, & excellent image quality. I got kind of stuck at a crossroad in m4/3, I had the Lumix 42.5 f1.7, & the Oly 45mm f1.8. To get any better, it was a BIG jump in weight & cost to either the PL 42.5mm f1.2, or the Oly 45mm Pro. I also had the most excellent Sigma 56 f1.4, but it was just a tiny bit long for the somewhat confined spaces & working distances at car shows. I've picked it up at the wrong time of the year really (the 85) for that (heading into winter) but I think it's going to work really well there. The m4/3 Lumix 42.5 was one of my most used lenses for that.
Anyway, was out shopping with the wife, had the 85mm in the bag, spotted this in the supermarket car park, so squeezed off a few frames :) Nothing outrageously artistic or brilliant, just good fun with my camera

This is the quaint little School of Arts at Clifton, which is a village south of Sydney on a thin strip of land between the escarpment and the Pacific Ocean. Population 35.

Very nice!

This is about the best I could get, which wasn't very good:

I was hoping the trees would be a good reference, but they were catching too much backlight, and I need to use the big tripod instead of a pocket one on the car roof. :(

Got this from the phone while I was testing to see if I'd made it far enough north:

Crap for details, but I liked the colors; they were gone by the time I finished setting up the S5, though. :(

Happy to see you make that you make a lot more use with this lens than I did
