News Lumix S9 - new camera rumor roundup

While I also think that a f6.3 pancake isn't as convincing, I wouldn't get the Sigma 30mm DC DN. The Sigma 30mm is a huge Aps-c lens. I would rather get the Sigma 45mm f2.8 or 24mm f3.5.
I must digress as I would love a true pancake.

If it does typical beautiful Lumix bokeh like both my 24-105 and 70-300 zooms it's a winner and f6.3 doesn't matter. This is referencing my tests of faster legacy Pentax primes against both zooms and despite being slower the bokeh is nicer on Lumix zooms.

I'm not one for wanting to totally cream out backgrounds anyway and a pancake f6.3 whether mountain hiking or city street photography sounds brilliant, especially downtown where a big lens puts me off even doing photography.

I discovered with Lumix zooms that the less bokeh was nicer than the faster Pentax legacy primes as they painted the background nicer, I said this on the legacy lens thread earlier.

I really hope this f6.3 pancake is not just rumour as I'll love it Z04 Carrot

I have to say the lack of mechanical shutter (and the hot shoe apparently being a cold shoe due to lack of contacts) has been a small disappointment for me. I started photography in the age of usable back screens, so I never got primed on using the EVF (and OVF's are something I only know from stories I've heard from my great-grandparents long, long ago) a lot. And while I don't mind a good EVF, I did own a S1R for a few years, I am fully comfortable using only the screen in like 90 % of cases. So losing the EVF robs me of some usability in edge cases but anything else will be good.

However the lack of mechanical shutter (and the hot shoe apparently being a cold shoe due to lack of contacts?) is a small disappointment to me. I often attend walk-around photography events where you are essentially on your feet for 6, 7 or 8 hours. And even with a somewhat small S5II (at least compared to my old S1R!) and and a Sigma 35mm F2, it can get tiring after a while for my weak body - especially if I have to carry a light-stand, flash and light modifier, too. I had hoped that with the S9 I'd not only gain a smaller option for travelling for both photos and videos but also something I could occasionally use on such events to take pictures, but without flash compatibility that's going to be a no-no.

I am still interested, but I hope that apart from obvious shortcomings (without a fan video recording length is definitely going to be impacted) the system itself won't be crippled further.

Sorry to reply to myself - but actually at the very end of that second video I linked - he reaches forward and zooms the lens in, so I'm 99% sure that's the s9 with kit 18-40. The xt50 was already just announced, Canon isn't going to be sending Casey an r1 and I doubt Nikon is sending him a z6iii.

But I just noticed that the first video talking head angle looks more zoomed in than the end of the second video where he zooms the 18-40. Not sure if he zoomed it all the way to 40 or if the first video was shot on aps-c mode.
After todays video, it seems the mystery camera was just the Nikon Zf... And the Tamron-Nikon 17-28.

F8, fully manual, 26mm. And releasing in Fall, way after the camera.

My bet is that the new camera and lens will be released at the same time (to be sold as a combo) and will work automatically. Z04 Bier01
(At least that's my hope.)
Young people don't want to focus manually and are impatient.;)

no way! he got us
LoL It's easy to forget that anyone can say anything about anything on Youtube from fake moon landings to some Italian who speculates about cameras. That's why I said before about a secret Lumix KGB double agent as his source, it's almost as moving as Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

So we need locked up for following him and he escaped from the place where we need locked up... Medication time :D

I find this rumor hard to believe.

If the lens is as small as they are suggesting it doesn't have much room for a manual focus ring!

Me too, Pete. I was starting to think that this is a hoax... and that Andrea Pizzini is being used to create a false expectation... and get a nice surprise next week when we see that in reality it is a f/2.8 pancake...

but then I found this:

pancake, manual, f/5.6, for 80€ Z04 975

There is also a 7artisans 35/5.6 pancake for a little over 100 €. If it has to be AF, there is also the Leica TL 18/2.8 (APS-C) pancake.

Still, currently the best options for the S9 are probably the Sigma I series. But no pancake.

Any good m mount options? I know they're pretty light and compact

If it electronic shutter only and the sensor readout speed is the same as the S5ii, then flash won’t be an option (unless it’s FP flash all the time).

I’m also inclined to think it’s a hoax… but calling it a “body cap” does make me wonder if it could be something like this:
