Got a few shots in on the drive to Wichita today, this is the one that worked out:

One think I love about the plains are the wide-open skies.
I am a lineman for the county,
And I drive the main road,
Searching in the sun for another overload,
I hear you singing in the wire.
I can hear you thru the whine
And the Wichita Lineman
Is still on the line.

Such a great song, and your shot evokes it perfectly!

I thank you very much for your kind words. :) But there are other spots on the Wichita Drive that I think might fit better...

It's that time of the year again for my favorite annual car show. Absolutely love it, go every year if I'm in the country. Shot with my adapted El Cheapo EF 40mm pancake. Mostly wide open. It has a little bit of magic about it, that tiny little lens.

If you like the song you should track down a copy of REM's version (I think it's a live performance). It's definitely the best version of the song.

I agree on the 40mm judging by that first shot - sharp and contrasty with just enough shallow depth of field to throw the background slightly out of focus.

Yeah, I think that if they're going to make something, 40mm would be the focal length to do it. 43mm is just too close to the already existing Sigma 45mm, and you'd want to maximise sales potential.

Oh, I'll take issue with that... I'd take James Taylor's cover (2007) or Johnny Cash's (2002) over REM's cover any day. Ray Charles did a pretty excellent cover, as well.

Of course, the original is as good as it gets.

Of course it is, any covers are never touching Glen Campbell.

Unless you're a guitarist or musician you probably don't know Glen was a God, a master of his instrument. But the average Joe will only know him for Wichita and Rhinestone Cowboy.

I set out on my early evening walk after work today with Apple Music on shuffle and the second song played was Wichita Lineman. :)

So having seen mention of other versions in this thread, I searched and found literally dozens of them! I didn't realise it had been covered by so many others. So I started playing them as I walked and got through almost 20.

I have to say that some of them were egregious. Z04 Smileys26 I didn't even like James Taylor's version despite the fact that I quite like James Taylor. The two I liked the best were the original Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb's version which was mostly unplugged, just piano and some sparingly used guitar. Colin Hay had quite a good version too.

Anyway, I can't get the tune out of my head now. Z04 975
