*** April 2023 Image & Video Thread

Some first rehearsal shots from the upcoming production of Separate Tables (Terrence Rattigan) which will be coming to the Abbey Theatre in St Albans in a few weeks. S5 coupled, for the first time, with Sigma 28-70/2.8. The face and eye detection work brilliantly in these circumstances (uncannily good) and the images themselves require very little PP - it's a great combo.

Another from Norway. I eventually got to edit them on a PC (I only had an iPad with me) - way better. I think I'll give up with iPad editing. It's not that LR on iPad is that bad, but the combination of small screen size lack of a mouse/keyboard make it hard to get a good result.

A few shots from Fornebu in Oslo. The area used to be the site of Oslo's main airport until it was moved to Gardemoen in 1998. Since then it has been redeveloped as a large mixed residential and business park, with particular emphasis on IT and telecomms. Some of the architecture is "interesting".

All these are with the S5 and either the 24-105 or the 14-28. I've given them all a Kodachrome 64 makeover.

Super theatre shots. The S5 is great for this sort of low light work. I imagine with the 28-70 f2.8 it's quite the weapon!

Hi Paul - thanks and yes, it's a great combo for these kinds of scenarios. The Sigma is a nice lowish cost reasonably compact option (and I have the surprisingly decent 20-60 if I want to go wider), and those images required only minimal pp. Now just need the theatre to stop filling their rehearsal stage with awful, distracting brightly coloured plastic chairs! When they've been carefully placed, they don't like me moving them! Cheers, Jon

From my favorite marsh, sunset, the other day.

Taken with the 150-600, 271mm F10. I love this lens....heavy and all.
I do wish this site could take larger files though, as some detail is lost with the downsizing....

Shot with the 150-600. I’ll share some more thoughts on the lens when I have more time to write
I rented the 150-600 last summer, and decided it was more than I wanted to carry. But it had so impressed me that I ended up, a month later, buying one. I love it.
I added the TC-1411 recently, and have just started giving that a try with it. So far so good...
I just make sure to have the monopod with me when I take the lens out. That makes it infinitely easier to work with.

That marsh photo is really really good. I like everything about it, lighting, composition, subject matter. Thanks for posting.

Thanks!
There is something a little magical about the light that hits this waterway. It's not far from where I live, so I stop by every so often, and over the years there have been a few photos that captured some of that. I was lucky to be there at the right moment for this one, this week.

The Easter weekend offered some nice weather so we decided to go for a walk in a place called Ransdorp. It's at walking distance from Amsterdam (Holland) but most tourists fortunately haven't discovered it yet or have no interest in it, so the natives have some nearby place to go to as well. All shot with the 20-60mm
