*** September 2024 Image and Video Thread ***

Thank you, Tim!
Looks like clarity, texture & dehaze being ramped up in LR. Monochrome filters with such PPed landscapes with distinctive cloud can give an even greater striking bold effect.

I used to do this with 35mm B&W film with a polariser and Hoya R72 infra-red filter attached. Not sure where I learned this, maybe Ansel...

I think just dehaze, I didn't touch texture and clarity in LR, if I remember correctly. I took the photo last summer. The storm atmosphere was unbelievable. A bit of saturation and contrast are my "weak" points...

Those flower photos I posted in the August thread already looked super saturated and contrasty. The S5ii was in Vivid profile in RAW but even changing the profile to Adobe landscape in LR mobile tamed it to just about acceptable.

Here is one with clarity & texture at 100% and dehaze at 48% with -14 vignette. It's a bit OTT for this photo but just for illustration. I knew a local photographer who sold prints even more extreme than this and it's all he did_1001027 (1).jpg

Someone please tell me that lens doesn't have 3D pop Daumenhoch It's superb!

Mine has been sitting in my backpack for 2 months

Yeah, so has mine. :(

But I am about to go on a road trip for 4 days so it's time to get the S5M2 and the big lenses out. The S9 will come along for the ride too.Daumenhoch

This year's Labor Day trip was the Strategic Air Command museum in Omaha, NE:
If you enjoy this sort of subject matter, may I heartily recommend the US Air Force Museum, adjacent to Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. It's pretty astounding, especially the experimental aircraft collection and the collection of old Air Force Ones.

Yup; I’ve been there twice, it’s a really neat place. Sadly both times were when I was much less skilled as a photographer. *sheepish look*

Another great one in the Midwest is the Kalamazoo Air Zoo in Michigan.

I've also been there twice. I love that museum. The first time I was there, lots of years ago, it just happened that the crew from the second Hiroshima B-29 strike plane, the Bockscar (which is on display at the museum) was there for a reunion, and I got to see these fairly old guys crawl into their airplane. It was a moment in history.

The second time I had the privilege of a private tour by a museum docent and retired Air Force pilot. I learned more about the early Air Force spy satellite programs than I could have imagined. The early spy satellites were before digital cameras, with film, and they actually ejected the film packs and returned them to earth where they dropped by parachute in a region near Hawaii. It turned out my host was one of the pilots that snatched these film packs out of the sky and sent them off to Langley, VA for processing. Again, I had a first hand connection to history.

SR-71 still looks ahead of it's time, I reckon the aliens in area 51 helped Kelly Johnson
