New firmware update S5ii(X)

After seeing this I really cannot wait for a new firmware update for my beloved S5iiX:

- We know that Lumix Labs (phone app) compatibility is coming
- We expect the hybrid zoom would also be coming
- But now I understand the S9 also has better Autofocus (they improved it again, especially for higher framerates video)

I hope it will come quickly: yes please Z04 Essen

Yeah as he says now includes PDAF for 1080p up to 100fps in S&Q but should have been anyway. I've haven't used S&Q but know it's there. I don't think I fully know why I use 50fps 4k, smoother video? And can this be used for 2x slo-mo? I do know why I use 4k obviously.

Hybrid zoom will be cool, also Lumix Labs.

Currently in Lumix Sync only Shutter Remote Control is using BT and requires switching wi-fi off, maybe geo-tagging but I couldn't get it to work, no LAT/LONG co-ordinates appear in EXIF.

Import Images, Remote Shooting and Others require wi-fi. Labs perhaps changes some of this to allow frame.io. I also discovered Sync uses wifi 4 protocol exlaining the pretty slow transfer performance given the S5ii and more modern cameras have wifi 5 (802.11 ac) so hopefully fixes this also.

Although I should write all this in the Lumix Labs thread, maybe I'll copy this bit.Screenshot_2024-06-01-12-26-54-902_com.panasonic.jp.lumixsync.jpgScreenshot_2024-06-01-11-48-54-941_com.android.settings.jpg

Unless someone from Panasonic say this will come to S5II/x, don't assume this will happen I just don't want you to be disappointed.

Well we're working on the assumption of them continuing to want to sell as many S5ii/S5iiX as possible and the stated expectation by Panasonic that Lumix Labs will work on these and G9ii.

Firmware 3.0 was unlikely the final firmware update Z04 Angeber

I know Richard, but they WILL add Lumix Labs (it's on the page in the google Appstore).

So we can expect a firmware update. Supporting 5Ghz Wifi wil than also be included, making this stil a bigger update.

Because I presume they work from one codebase (I used to be a software developer, now an IT-architect), I expect we will get all the goodies. I do presume than that the internal processor is still the same.

But I do expect this update to appear when the S9 news is settled, and they need a new thing to keep them in the news...

I use it when I expect to do slo-mo, although frame interpolation from DaVinci Resolve (Studio) is getting quite good.

How do you play 50p in slo-mo? Do you need specific softwares? I open it in anything on phones or Mac it plays normal. TBH it's not something I'm likely to use often except capturing maybe a fast panning bird bird or something.

Geo-tagging works with only the BT connection active. I've just run a test to confirm (iOS). The co-ordinates are registered in the EXIF.

So it looks like you've got LUMIX Sync working fully now?

Hey, Nevyn72, I bought DaVinci Resolve Studio with the Speed Editor but my computer is starting to do strange things... If I install DaVinci Studio in my usual computer, it collapses weeks later and I buy a new computer, do you thing I could install DaVinci Studio in the new computer?

Registered yeah via BT but I had it fully working before via wifi.

No geo-tagging didn't record for me with only BT only with Android.

Not too bothered as Labs hopefully will iron out the buggy software and pleasantry of use.

Hi Xaviergut, you have the license key right? Than you can install it on two computers at the same time. You can also de-register on the old PC (there is a option in the menu, I'm now not at home so I cannot check exactly where but is there somewhere... But you can also keep it installed on the old PC and use it on both... (If your old PC doesn't go first up in flames Z04 Flucht

You do that in post, for example when you use Davinci Resolve you can put it on a 25fps timeline and it will slow down to 50%.
More advanced: you can also speedramp the footage, but that you have to look up:

Note: the free version of Davinci Resolve is very good, but only supports 8-bit footage.

No I'm happy to stay away from pro video PP not being a videographer as such so far. I do enjoy the highest quality clips though and can use LR mobile for editing if I want to, usually never! I'm not sure LR does MOV format so far, maybe not but it's better than what you think but no timeline changes for slo-mo which I'm not worried about anyway. The thing is if I use 50p I can have the choice to slo-mo them if I capture something special. Thanks

Thank you very much!! Daumenhoch

I just got an update to LUMIX Sync that says it is compatible with the S9. This new is version 2.0.12.

I'm not sure why, as I expect LUMIX Lab will communicate with the S9 by the time it releases in late June.

The wi-fi in this release is 802.11ac, which is a step up in speed. My phone supports that; if i get a chance I'll see if LUMIX Sync seem faster.

It probably doesn't work or work well enough yet, but neither is Lumix Sync a great app.

Lumix Sync was already supposed to have that but only for high speed ac through a router and the new update is the same. I couldn't connect the Lumix Sync to my router and therefore not to the camera. The fast wifi 5 ac is not available for direct phone/camera connection for whatever reason.

You can only use BT with 'Shutter Remote Control' and wifi is required for the others, if you want to use again it requires you to disconnect wifi and this is all you can do with BT and apparently geo-tagging.

Geo-tagging is not working for me as I think it maybe requires an internet connection (I'm still looking into this) and when you connect the camera using wifi direct to the phone, the camera is now the access point and therefore no internet connection. If you need geo-tagging through a router then it isn't much use, the geo-tag should be read from the phone and I'm not seeing it in EXIF data.

I can't even geo-tag phone camera images so problem must be there. I'll keep trying then the geo-tagging should work.

Geo tagging only requires Bluetooth. "Location Logging" under the camera Bluetooth settings needs to be On and LUMIX Sync needs to be running on your phone.

The problem with the geotagging: I noticed the location updates when the screen is on. If my phone comes in sleep, all my photos will have the same location even if I moved (until the location is lost, which also happens some times). I hope Lumix Lab will fix that.
