Lumix Lab arrives in Play Store

I transferred the raw image via Sync, then imported it into the Lab. And I can't apply LUT. It seemed to me that in one of the videos they said that it would be possible to develop with the selected LUT right in the camera. Or am I confusing something?
I still haven't managed to have a proper play with it, but I think you can only edit using camera jpegs at the moment. Not sure about LUT's, I know Richard Wong who posts here a bit said at the moment, it's all just jpeg editing. Perhaps he'll chime in, and advise whether you can apply LUT's to jpegs, as of right now

The application allows you to apply LUT to an imported jpeg. When compatibility with S5II is added and it becomes possible to upload LUT to the camera, I will try to compare two images - taken in the camera using LUT and the same image taken in the basic setting and using LUT in the Lab application

I assume you can apply a LUT to anything, but given that a JPEG doesn't have the original image data, LUTs won't necessarily have the changes you desire, depending on the state of the starting JPEG.

Then seen this... View attachment 4572

"Expected to be compatible with: DC-S5M2、DC-S5M2X、DC-G9M2"

WTF?

Hey Oíche,
Panasonic did say in the banner that the app is
"compatible with DC-S9"
and
"expected to be compatible with S5II/S5iix/G9II"

I think that's quite clear "to be" means not yet? And yes all the official communication is quite clear saying right now only S9 is compatible

And yes right now you can only edit JPG.
But i do expect you can load/edit RAW in the future. (just my guess, not something promised by Lumix)
The Lumix Lab is still in very early stage.. they still got tonnes of features they need to finish, the engineering team has also received millions of feedback/bug reports from us during the summit and they are working ass off to get the app up and running without major bugs.
I know that because their chief engineer emailed me at 0:30 Japan time after he tested some issues I reported during the summit.

I would guess their highest priority is make sure the S9 users got great experience first, as this is the camera that is launched with the app. So give them a bit of time. Support with S5II will come eventually.

Matt, one of the specialists working for Panasonic UK, posted this on a FB group earlier today:

Q1) Will this work on my S5II OR S5IIX?
A1) At launch, the app is exclusively for the upcoming S9 camera only. However support for the S5II, S5IIX & G9II will be coming in the future.

Q2) What about original S5, S1H, GH5, G9, etc?
A2) These models aren't and won't be supported for a number of reasons, mainly as they are using a previous version of the Lumix engine which doesn't support the features of the app. Things like the new 5GHz wireless transfer, or Real Time LUTs.

Q3) Can I still use the app to make LUTs/Edits for my existing photos on previous models?
A3) Yes! Using Lumix Sync you can transfer your images over to your smartphone or tablet and import them into the Lab app. Here you can edit and share your photos or create LUTs which you can then export and send to your PC where you could load the .cube LUT file onto your SD card and add them to your LUT Library on your S5.
It is worth remembering, Real Time LUT on the S5II and G9II uses VLog as the base profile so you will want to create LUTs for this. Instead of a standard profile. And LUT preview for the S5/GH6 also uses VLog.

Q4) Does the App support raw files?
A4) No, the Lumix Lab app can only edit JPG images right now

Excellent info. Best description I've read so far. I've gotten as far as opening and editing jpeg's previously downloaded with Lumix Sync, but not yet played around with LUT's. Which, according to that, is possible in camera even on the S5. Very interesting

No it wasn't/isn't just for the S9. It's just that it was developed around the S9, so it makes perfect sense to release it first with that camera. Panasonic has said it's coming for the other cameras listed, you just have to have a little bit of patience.
That's how I understood it.

@Oíche - Panasonic have always been pretty good with this kind of thing. The fact that they will need to push out another firmware update to make the existing cameras compatible is a big undertaking and it's awesome that they are planning to do it.

Cmon this was crap and a major let down after all the hype.
I'm so upset. Lumix Lab isn't available for my iPhone. Who do I demand give my money back for this free app? Panasonic? Apple? Maybe Android? Google? Oh wait, I forgot, several of the YouTube reviewers mentioned the Android app would come out first and the Apple app would be later.

No you can't as I previously posted the pairing screen where you can't get past. I know it's not you who said this.

I have not tested it yet, but does the wording "transfering images from the S5ii to a smartphone" means pairing with the lab app by default?

There are other ways to transfer images from the S5ii to the smartphone. Either with the old app or via PC.

As far as I understood it, just put the S5ii images on the smartphone without using the lab app as a first step as long as the S5ii is not yet compatible with the lab app.

Then in a second step use the Lab App with the already uploaded images on the smartphone. Import them from the smartphone into the lab app.

So, no real pairing at all as long as Panasonic does not offer a FW update for the S5ii/G9ii

Again like I say you can't do it. When you click on import images it demands registration and pairing with the camera which does not work and doesn't see the camera/phone pairing when you manually pair BT and wifi, the Labs app won't connect end of story.

It works for me. I just installed Lumix Lab on my Google Pixel Pro 8.

I imported an image which I made with my smartphone and imported it from the smartphone gallery into the Lumix lab app.

Here the screenshots from my smartphone.

When you click add images, you have two options: add from the device gallery and import from lumix. Choose the first one and voila.
And you can also download the LUT, then select "share" in the LUT library and transfer it to a PC, then to an SD card and install it on the camera from it.

Weird, I think both our phones are Android 14. I don't care much anyway having Lightroom mobile which now does video. I've gave up on it, you can get the LUTs and import them into S5ii with a memory card until it works.

All Japanese camera companies must use the same software engineer, I remember his efforts in Pentax also :p
