Rumors Will 2024 be an exciting year for L-Mount?

And since the forum software is getting hinky about embedding other pics, let's try just posting these separately:

Edit: Sigh, I give up. Anyone have any idea why the forum software keeps glitching these links? They're all posted straight out of the share-with-BBCode option from Flickr, but some embed correctly and some get glitched like the first couple of links.

I have seen that happen but don't know why. It's weird!

The A7CR appeals to me a lot. It's a very small rangefinder style 61 MP camera. Unfortunately its video function sucks. If Panasonic used that 61MP sensor in a rangefinder style camera with video that sucked less I would be the first in line.

I have a A7CR myself, it is far from perfect and has LOTS of limitations, for example the electronic viewfinder is terrible. But I think it is a really nice camera overall and could be really great camera for a lot of people.
I myself enjoy it a lot more than A7III and A7IV

The camera itself weighs the same as my little a6700 aps-c camera, which is pretty remarkable. Of course then you need to put full frame lenses on it.:)

The a7cr does seem like a nice camera but you're right, $3k for a camera with 2.36m dot evf in 2023 is an odd choice. That's the same as my em5mkii from 2017. A mini s1r with vlog would be very appealing

But I think that's are sacrifices that you have to take for such a small camera. The few finder of the GX80/85 also wasn't good, even not for the time it was released. And that was a MFT Body. Also the IBIS has less space and heat issues are more difficult to handle in a smaller body. You can't have everything. You can have highend hardware in a chunkier body ore you can have reduced hardware in a reduced body.

I'd like to see a FF Sigma Rangefinder Style like the FP with a built in viewfinder, with a tilt screen and hot shoe with PC socket. With flash sync or 250 or better.
One can only hope

Fair enough- for me, I'd view it more as a discount a7rv than a compact a7rv. $900 is quite a bit of money to save by taking the tradeoffs. I wouldn't mind renting one for a special trip, but using one long term wouldn't be viable for me until I was able to upgrade my laptop and invest in more storage. As it is, I need to come up with some system to archive old footage and photos in a lower sized format.

Yes! Camera (and most electronics) design is always a game of compromise.

Size, Specs, Price

You can only pick two at most.

If you want good specs, it costs money and usually means an increase in size for the hardware itself, and quite often it means requiring more power and cooling (both also increase size and price)
If you want a compact size, it means you either have to give up some specs or have to pay a lot extra for miniaturisation

You can't have everything.. It's really a game of how much sacrifices the company is willing to make in each area.

For a smaller RF body, especially having the S5II already, i'd gladly give up specs; size and price are enough. It's not that specs these days are lacking, and for a more portable and discreet camera you can reasonably give up something. After all, it would still be miles ahead of my current GX-80, the one i use for some occasions.

Assuming you are the product owner of the next Lumix compact FF body that is mainly a photo camera, but the engineers told you you need to choose one thing to give up to make it the size and price you want, what would you give up?

EVF
IBIS
PDAF

PDAF. Not even a choice. DFD is brilliant. For photographers anyway.

For me probably EVF, meaning lower quality, not missing altogether.
Or IBIS, again lower spec, not missing.
PDAF i suppose has to stay at this point, and it is indeed quite nice in C-AF.

So Richard, are you testing anything new and interesting at the moment?? Z04 Flucht

I agree. DFD won't sell anymore, is not a good Idea from marketing point. PDAF would have to stay.
EVF: A lot of users (especially new users) would not use it anyway
IBIS: If they combine it with a lens with IS, it would be possible (but not for me).

You think a new user likely coming from a phone, who doesn't want to use an EVF, would understand what DFD & PDAF is?
No, but they have just heard from their top-influencer that it is bad...Lumix was in that spot, I don't think they want to go back to that situation.

EVF, I use the Ricoh GRiii as an everyday carry camera and I never missed a EVF.

If the New rumoured FF RF slyle camera has the specs of the Nikon Zf, that means good photo and decent video, it would enogh for me to buy it.

I think the sensor, including AF system, has to be at least the same as S5II. But I would be okay with a worse EVF, if at least there is one. Also the IBIS system doesn't have to be on the level of the S5II. EVF and IBIS of the GX series also always have been worse compared to the G and GH series. With exception of the GX8, which was quite big for a micro four thirds rangefinder style body.
