The S9 is selling well apparently !

A tool for family vacations which even the wife and the kids are able to operate
Is it easier to use than a S5ii? I don't think it is nor 'user friendly' and is equally complicated, it looks it but that's all.

Me neither and I am thinking about buying the S9 too Z04 Bier01

Maybe that crowd is not as small as people think. A tool for family vacations which even the wife and the kids are able to operate.
It’s reasonable to assume it more likely someone 30+ with a family buys an expensive camera. The TikTok crowd is massive but mostly young kids with no money.

Yes it is easier. Less buttons, smaller body, similar usage as a smartphone.

Watch the video linked above what the wife of this youtuber said. My wife would say the same.

The Ricoh GR3 is for her too small and too fiddly. I love the GR3 for its small size and one handed operation.

Different needs and preferences for different people.

I thought the price would hold it back. It’s good news that it’s doing so well, but I suspect most early customers aren’t the people they aimed to target. I’ve seen anecdotal evidence that it’s been picked up by the small camera/street/edc/travel photography crowd.
Around the time that the S9 launched, I read a few Japanese articles that suggested the launch price was lower than many would have expected (in part due to the economy ) and my impression was that it was pretty competitive.

Early adopters will often pay a premium, which companies will factor in, which I think some forget when prices come down a little later when they ascribe this to low demand. Plus, launch offers can help boost sales. Personally, I’ve been swayed by the one in the UK.

In the case of a product like the S9, some consumers will be willing to pay more for a product that is physically smaller. There was good discussion in this thread - https://l-mount-forum.com/community/threads/where-is-the-new-small-m43-camera.604/ - where Richard made good points about miniaturisation.

One of the points that Richard made about the time for it took Fujifiln to achieve really great sales with X100 series is something that I think gets overlooked and I feel often discussion centres around one iteration at a moment in time, rather than longer term-strategy. With the way that the S9 is being marketed as shoot, edit (crossed out) and share, the way LUMIX Lab is being received in some quarters, is something I’m finding very interesting and and how it could affect the perception of LUMIX in the future.

Interesting. Would you put yourself in the 18-30 TikTok social media content creator category? Or the 30+ married with kids photographic memories category?

I do not think that Panasonic had this target group in mind. But same as Ricoh which still thinks that their GR3 is a street photography tool, both oversee the full potential of these cameras for many different use cases.

If the price is low and if there are no problems with warranty etc., I will probably buy an S9 in green.

Just in case, I will take my Sigma 24/3.5 and 50/2.0 with me to Japan to have a lens for the S9. The rest will be MFT.
Ooooh, that green does look pretty sweet ! For sure.

I got to handle an S9 for the first time today. Unfortunately, it was immediately after handling a Sony A7Cii and it wasn’t a good comparison. For £300 more, the Sony offers an EVF, a working hotshoe, three dials rather than one, a better grip, and a mechanical shutter. If I were not already invested in Panasonic FF, it wouldn’t even get on my shortlist.

Yeah, yeah - I’m not the target market. But a Lumix version of the A7Cii would have got my money.

What was your impression of the EVF on the A7Cii? Adequate?

I think it's time you sold your Lumix gear and moved on, I would if I was disgruntled, I did it at the start of year Daumenhoch
I really don’t see me switching. It’s just nice from time to time to check out the competition. I like the S5ii a lot. But the S9 leaves me cold.

Yeah - adequate is the term to use. It’s better than I was expecting though. Even with glasses on I could see the whole frame. It’s probably about the same as the OG S5.

I am the complete opposite, Paul! I absolutely love my S9. I guess the saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure" applies here.

I love the simpler ergonomics (fewer dials and buttons), lack of an EVF isn't a problem because I prefer shooting from the hip which also means the body shape is perfect without a grip, and I never use a flash or need the hot shoe for any other purpose. Only having an electronic shutter is fine too.

I'd have preferred a tilting LCD rather than a flippy LCD, and I'd prefer 14-bit depth than 12-bit, but neither of these are showstoppers.

And the LUMIX Lab app is brilliant for fast transfer and editing of photos.

I want the firmware update for the S5ii(X). I would love to use the app... And the hybrid zoom :p

Me too, and I wouldn't mind if they add the Leica Monochrome picture profile to the S5II/X in the next firmware update... and the MP4 (Lite) codec... Z04 Flucht
The MP4 (Lite) codec will be there, you need it for the app... the Leica monochrome picture profile... Yes please... And support for the new Mic adapter :p

Hi,

I have to go on a gear-diet. Therefore I have to sell my Lumix S9, which I bought in August this year very cheap.

I do not want to make money on it, so I sell it for the same price, if you are a member here.

The camera is in pristine condition. This is the black version. Only a few hundred clicks. I only used it on my trip to Japan.

Included is the original box and all original accessories.

Price: 1.250€
(addionally a 50€ reduction if you are a Patron of LMF)

Shipping worldwide, but buyer has to pay the shipping costs.
I will never ever cure my GAS in this forum Z04 Pc2

There are only a few Sigma lenses and one small Lumix body (with EVF) missing and I would not have GAS anymore for 10 years at least.
