News Sigma BF

But guess what? No smartphone user is missing an EVF and they are bought in billions worldwide every year. Also to replace a normal, traditional camera. And exactly for this target group the BF was designed.
In fairness, smartphones are purchased in the billions worldwide because they perform a number of tasks, among them being camera-like. I'm not sure anyone buys a smartphone exclusively for its camera.

No. that could be wrong. I bought the iPhone Pro only because of the additional 3rd camera, otherwise I could go with the standard iPhone. Any Phone works the same for me, only the camera triggered the decision...

That's interesting, because of the reach and attention Marques Brownlee can create. He is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, tech YouTuber and has much more followers and views than the camera YouTuber. I mean he did an interview with Barack Obama on his channel. But he usually doesn't have much camera talk lately.

That's said, that's not his main channel, but he also did a short about the BF on this main channel.

Folks here are hardly the typical sample.

I had the chance to look at the Sigma BF today. The very first item in Germany.

I can tell you, the silver version looks and feels really "sexy". It is a jewel. I really, really liked it.

I tested it with visitors and after testing the usabilty and image quality, they preordered it. Probably the very first preorder in Germany. Unfortunatley, I do not get comission for that. But it felt good to see how happy they were with it. Maybe they join the German sister forum.

The thumb grip in combination with the texture on the front gives a relatively good secure feeling. The Sigma people told me that the black version is not as good in this respect, because of the painting.

LCD screen in bright sunlight at maximum brightness is similar to my Ricoh GR3x.

The screen is in reality brighter than on this photo. The Smartphone adjusted the photo too much.

Usability is superb.

By the way: I had the impression, that my Sigma 45/2.8 was sharper on the Sigma BF than on my S5ii. I have to make further tests with different camera bodies.

Sigma BF with 35/2.0 side by side with Lumix S9 and 18-40 zoom.

Do you see yourself "upgrading" or changing your Lumix S9 for the Sigma BF? Teufel Grinsend Schwanz

That is a difficult question. I do not need the BF at all, but I want one Teufel Grinsend Schwanz

Reality is, I can not tell my wife that this is an old camera from 10 years ago. Z04 Wife

And there is a risk that my wife likes the BF. My wife is probably part of the target group of the BF. She does not like cameras. She does not like all the buttons, dials, SD cards etc. She just want to push a button and the camera does the rest. And it has to look really cool. Wifi for sharing photos would be a problem though...

There would probably be a fight who will use it... Z04 Hinterherjagen

Dangerous ground....

It's 11 months since I last bought anything photography related (the Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN) and I thought I might make it to a year GAS free.

You're not helping at all, Dirk! Z04 Kommmalherfreundchen
/me starts pondering ski masks…

I have tried to convince my wife to change her S5 OG for the S9... but she says that there are more important things in life... She is right, of course, and she does not do video at all.

I actually prefer the Lumix S9 to the Sigma BF... In terms of specs, because I could not have the Sigma in my hands yet, but for me the Ibis, the HHHR shot and the better video specs make the Lumix way more interesting. And I have not seen any grip for the Sigma BF yet...

So just buy one for her, and if she doesn't like it, you can use it :) And she won't be using it all the time anyway

Distance and aperture play a big role with the Sigma 45/2.8: it's at its sharpest between f/4 and f/11 and at medium to long distances although it's not as ultimately sharp as the f/2 lenses. I have no complaints about mine although it doesn't get as much use as it deserves because I generally prefer wider angles.
