I was just browsing Sigma lenses online and suddenly noticed a new camera called BF. It seems no one on the forums is discussing it, so I'd like to know what everyone thinks about it.

We had discussions about it and some of our members bought the Sigma BF. But the main thread about the Sigma BF did not have the Sigma BF name in its title. I added this now. You can find it here:

Beautiful camera. I tried it out on a photo event before its launch. Fast AF etc. I love the user interface. I hope Sigma will continue in this direction and will add more models with this spirit in the future. A Sigma BF2 with an EVF for example.

The only downside I see is no EVF, the screen in bright sunlight and the lack of a grip. In hot weather, this can be slippery. The black version because of the painting even more than the silver version

It's an excellent if not a quirky camera as it does not have an SD card slot, viewfinder (or a means to mount one) and a minimum of buttons too.
It's battery hungry so you need extra batteries (other cameras have the same issue) and it switches off after a short spell but you learn to keep checking to see if it's gone to sleep or not. The image quality is worth the purchase, but there's no IBIS and it really needs a hand grip for security and comfort. I have a Tilta grip which is perfect especially as this lets you use a wrist strap (there are no traditional neck strap loops) attached to the loop hole.
The sigma lenses are a perfect match too especially the 35 & 45mm lenses and you can use any L/mount lens too.
I had a Limix S f2.8 24-60mm on it a week or so ago and it worked great.

As the saying goes, "Google is your friend". There are a fair number of Sigma BF reviews out there - just do a search. When I found out about the BF, I did a search and read the reviews . It is about the same size as the S9 but the design is very different. It was designed to be part of a modular system. Sigma has always had some interesting and somewhat "out there" camera designs over the years.

I think there is a huge difference between product reviews of people you do not know and community members in a forum sharing their experience.

It is good to read everything, but after a while you know the members here and this gives a big advantage when you try to put experiences of others in perspective with your own use cases.

I’m not going back to that thread ;) but I would like to set the record straight on the white balance issue. Sigma fixed the problem in firmware version 1.02 back in October 2025: the release notes mention “Improved Auto White Balance (AWB)” and this completely stopped the drift I saw across multiple photos taken over a short interval after turning the camera on.

I have a sigma fp with the viewfinder and then added a s9 with the 18-40. I tend to use the s9 more because of the ibis which really works well. I really wanted to get the bf, but because of the ibis I said no even though the sigma is better built.

I agree that reviewers and community members may have different experiences. However, the original poster just discovered the BF while browsing the Sigma website ("suddenly noticed a new camera called BF"), though the camera has been out for a year. The original poster asked why people on the forums aren't discussing the BF ("seems no one on the forums is discussing it"). I was pointing out that if he had read some of the reviews, he would have understood some of the quirks associated with the BF and might have understood why people on the forums aren't talking about it (at least not to the degree that he noticed).

I handled the BF (my brother in law has it) and it is... nice. The corner really bites into the hand. I think it will benefit even more than the S9 from the smaller lenses coming.
I hated the fixed screen but for phone users it is just normal I guess.
I prefer the S9, the BF is like jewelry (which I do not like), so I guess it has a reason to be and a place in the market, and it really looks as unique in person as in pictures.

With a Tilta grip fitted it’s very comfortable. The left bottom corner sits beautifully in the palm of my left hand without digging in, and the grip makes all the difference too.
I had an S9 which is a really good camera but had more handling issues with that camera than the BF.
The S9’s scroll wheel on the back was a constant irritation as it would change the shutter speed constantly as it was so easy to touch when holding it in the hand as it is positioned in the worst spot (that and it turns so easily) the one on the BF is well away from the palm.
Both cameras have issues especially the displays in bright sunlight but as you said, if you're used to a mobile phone then it's the same problem.
The S9 wins over the BF for the tiltable display but it's not a deal breaker as I've used Ricoh GR cameras and they don't have tiltable displays either.

The BF isn't discussed that much because so few people own one. It's a lot of money to pay for a very niche camera with huge limitations. I'm sure it's very nice for it's intended use and users but it's not something I, and a lot of others, would buy even if we had the necessary funds lying around.
