Hi,

I would be interested to hear about your experience with the Lumix S 70-300/4.5-5.6 on a +40MP sensor. Either S1R, S1Rii or Leica's 40/60MP sensors. Can the 70-300 keep up with that many MP?

Hi Dirk,

I am very happy with my copy and my Lumix S1R. I use it for landscape, portrait mainly. I like the range very much and the fact that it is not too heavy (800 grammes - ish). It is a very versatile lens.

It is plenty sharp though you do have to stop it down at 300mm to get the best results (F8 at 300mm is sharp enough - for me at least!). Here are a few examples below (hope I pasted the links properly!)

Thank you. In the past I was happy with the 70-300, but I only have 24MP at the moment.

I want to downsize over the next months my equipment significantly and I need to plan and make a decision what stays and what I might purchase in the future.

As long as there is no other alternative below 800g available, the 70-300 is the only telezoom option, if I would decide for a higher MP body in the future.

I am getting tired of waiting for smaller/lighter telezooms...

The alliance seems not to realize, that the lack of a light telezoom and a small 28mm fixed focal length lens are the achilles heel of the L-Mount lens system atm.

The only experience I have with the 70-300 on the S1RM2, I compared it to the 70-200 f/4 with a 1.4x extender in the high resolution mode. The 70-200 w/1.4x was quite a bit sharper. Also the stabilization on the 70-200 w/1.4x was better, so I could shoot slower shutter speeds. This was somewhat discouraging; I had hoped the 70-300 would do better since it is lower weight and easier to carry.
