***May 2025 Image and Video Thread***

The annual "Sunday Parkways Southwest" event was held about a block south of my home. It didn't rain (much), so a nice day for a walk or bike ride.

There were some very Portland vehicles on show:

More photos of Paris, we are now in the Jardin du Palais Royal. Fine art students painting a covered statue:

This one was taken in movement from the plane and the window was not very clean...

After the Olympics, Paris's parks are very well-kept and beautiful. But they've started continuing with construction throughout the city, and traffic is a real problem. The mayor wants to reduce the number of cars; I'm not sure how, but right now it takes twice as long to get to places. It was a work/business trip, so I didn't have time to take many photos. I hope to return soon with more time because it's always a culturally important city.

This is the North window at Hexham Abbey, taken from the top of the night stairs. For anyone with a compulsive need for symmetry and order, Hexham Abbey is a nightmare; almost nothing is aligned with what sensibility says ought to be aligned. So, the main arch is out of kilter with the roof, which in turn is out of kilter with the window...and the window is not central within the wall framing! I tried to make sure I was dead straight on to the window; if I was, it also looks like the left and right walls are not at right-angles to the window wall...

After work a little detour to Urk (which also has a nice camera store....)

Did you buy something? :D
Yes and no. They took my S 24/1.8 I got used for the same price as I bought it, and I pre-ordered my 24-60/2.8 there. My idea was to buy the S 100/2.8 there. But they (and a lot of the other retailers) raised the price somewhere in the last few days to 1099 which I was not willing to pay. So I used the 24/1.8 to lower the price of the new pre-ordered 24-60/2.8

In their parking lot I ordered the 100 macro still for the old price, from another retailer online, and will arrive today. So yesterday I sold my 24/1.8 there.

UsedPhotoPro (the used equipment arm of Roberts Photo in Indianapolis) has the 100 macro for $698 US... going to be there the holiday weekend for a friend's wedding and the usual Indy 500 get-together he hosts, so almost tempted. Alas, don't have the money now. :(

They also have the Sigma Art 105/2.8 macro for $488, and some other L-mount including some Leicas. Ah, for a handy bank to rob... Teufel Grinsend Schwanz

Until then, gonna have to stick with my Vivitar Plastic Fantastic... which doesn't do all that badly, especially for the $20 or so I paid for it:

Visiting my friend in Indianapolis for the 500, they picked up a new housemate since my last visit... still calls her 'the kitten', but also says she considers herself the Mountain Lion King of the Tall Perch. :)

Sadly, it was a fairly unhappy Indy 500.

Even the Goodyear Blimp couldn't save it. ;_;

Just before the race was due to start, it began sprinkling.

When the race finally did start, one of the drivers with cold tires spun out during the warm-up lap, before the green flag officially started the race. Off to the shops.

And that set the tone for the rest of the day - caution flag after caution flag:

Car after car sitting dead in the pits.

Last year's two-time winner, hoping for a third consecutive win, ended up with his car being pushed out of the pits because they couldn't get it running again after a pit stop.

Oh well.

Here's a fishy pic for a bit of artistic interest:
