News Lumix S1II & S1IIe live event party

...

Lumix S1II

New 24 MP stacked sensor. Improved version of S1H and merger with S1. All features are better than with S1H and it is 800 USD cheaper than the S1H at launch. Same body as S1IIe and S1RII.

...

As far I know, Panasonic already confirmed a S1Hii is in the works. Maybe S1HII will merge the S1II and S1RII, higher pixel count and stacked sensor.

I have not seen any confirmation about this yet.

If they bring a S1HII (and name it that way), it needs to be a monster to be able to beat the S1II. That will cost probably a lot more. Not just a few hundred USD more.

I wonder whether there would be enough customers who are willing to pay +5.000 USD for a camera and who need features, which the S1II does not offer yet.

And then here is the interesting part - if they make a body with a hi-res fully stacked sensor, the sports & wildlife people will want it as well. Especially if they give it a bigger buffer & the AF is up to par. So, calling it an "S1HII" could put off stills people. Especially if it has an AA filter, although I suppose they could have an S1HII & a S1HIIX tp overcome that.

Maybe, but I think priority for Panasonic are hybrid shooters. Of course the specifications would also be intriguing to wildlife shooters. However, I don't think an AA filter would be necessary with a 44 to 50 Mpix Sensor.

The OG S1H was introduced for 3999€ back in 2019. I think when they would offer a S1HII wit fully stacked 45 Mpix Sensor, with DR boost, with all those S1II features and additional 8k possibilities, with even more advanced AF features, there will be enough potential customers to pay around 4499€ or even 4999€.

You have to add inflation of over 6 years, if we are talking m about a launch date in 2025. Plus the better tech.

I would see that Lumix camera more between 5.500 and 6.000 USD/€. nowadays, if the newest tech is used.

Look at the Canon R5, Nikon Z8 etc and their launch price 2-5 years ago. Always well above 4.500 € and they could produce it cheaper thanks to their bigger volume.

As far as I can see it and how different youtubers described it, the product placement is as follows:

Lumix S1IIe

2.800€. Improved version of the S5IIx. Same 24MP sensor, but the rest better (body, AF, speed, processor, EVF, tilting screen etc.). More expensive than launch price of S5IIx to be able to offer both at different price levels. User shall decide depending on budget and required tech.

Lumix S1II

3.500€. New 24 MP half-stacked sensor. Improved version of S1H and merger with S1. All features are better than with S1H and it is 800 USD cheaper than the S1H at launch. Same body as S1IIe and S1RII. optimized for video, best rolling shutter of all 3. Not yet a sports camera.

Lumix S1RII

3.600€. New BSI (non stacked) 44MP sensor. Replaces the S1R. In almost all features better than S1R and in some on par (i.e. EVF). AF etc. same as with S1II and S1IIe. Image quality for photography better than S1R and S1II. Not just resolution, also colours etc. Because of sensor and MP, rolling shutter risk with video

S9 (street price 1.200€), S5 (street price 999€), S5II (street price 1.900€) and S5IIx (street price 2.200€) stay in the product line. Products on all price levels and below the 3 new bodies.
Thanks for this summary Dirk. I think I now understand the positioning. For sure, if/when I replace my current OG S bodies, the S1Rii is the camera for me. I might look at what my S1 + S1R will sell for and see what the cash outlay will be. I might do it for the autumn season. I'm going to be spending two months in France later in the year and I've have a lot of time on my hands so I suspect I'll be doing a lot more photography.

only 3 ? You forget all the comparison reviews he has to make as wel. 24-60 compared to 28-70, S1e to S5mk2, etc. I understand why @Richard Wong only came here like once last few months.

haha no i did visit at least once or twice a week. But just can't comment much on any of the S1II or new product rumours, so just read what you guys were discussing, still very interesting

Bbelieve it or not, after the S1RII review (that was about 3 months ago), i have created 16 more videos for my channel (including the Fuji GFX100RF review) + 2 more for another channel.. and also did a few photography workshops and some other projects in real world as well.
And yes i do have a day job

I'm jealous. France is lovely!

Ah, ok. Thanks. Guess I jumped to the wrong conclusion.
Nah, it was a really vague and a bit misleading description in one of the reviews I read too. I think it may have been DPreviews again. Because I went off looking elsewhere to see if it were weather sealed, as they made no mention of that either

I marked the point where Dustin addresses the S1H users

I watched too many different reviews, that I can not remeber anymore where was what mentioned.

Somewere someone said something about a new livestream feature of the S1II to make easier livestreams. I think it was Dustin. I have to search. I found it.

You can now connect the S1II with the PC and the PC charges the battery while live streaming and act like a webcam. That is really cool. I put the marker on that spot:

Does anybody know whether this will come to the S1RIi too?

Well he is only a creator with some connections to Panasonic but without mich knowledge about future product's a few months later.

Sean from Panasonic USA, as an employee has probably a bit better knowledge about what's next and he have talked about a S1H successor or a hybrid that is even exceed the capabilities of the S1RII and S1II on yesterday's live stream beginning at about 51:41 minutes:

He gives some loose information, that there are indeed plans for such a product. Also Matt Frazier, also a Panasonic employee, said in an interview with cined, a S1HII is in the works. My guess would be a release in autumn this year.

I exchanged the video to get directly to the right spot.

mmmmhhh.... that sound very vague. Either because they do not want to hurt the sales of the S1II or because it is just at the very beginning of the "thinking process", which could mean nothing will come or something in 2026/2027.

If they want to launch in autumn, they must be ready already to start mass production in July.

But I do not mind. The more bodies the better, as long as they make profit with it. Daumenhoch Smilie

I think we are sick... we got announced 2 new cameras this week, plus the S1Rii, the Sigma BF and the Leica SL3-s this year and we speculate already about the next one hahahaha Z04 Kaputtlachen

Ha ha ha. For sure. I've had my S5 classic for 18 months now, & I'm STILL figuring out new & better ways to set it up, and mastering my own technique as far as panning etc goes to get the best out of it. A new camera isn't going to improve that, if anything it would be a setback trying to sort out exactly how different focus modes react to various situations. And that's before getting into different raw developing techniques.
I said it somewhere else, I've not the slightest desire to update my camera body, I've noted this before, but the best way I know to cure gear addiction is to spend the money (and quite a bit more if required) on a decent holiday, and shoot the $h!t out of your existing gear. Every day, good light & at night, static & moving subjects, and experiment with various setups. All of a sudden you'll realise that it's not the camera that's holding you back. And you might even fall in love with what you already have. Every time I've gone on a decent holiday, the realisation hits me again.
Doesn't stop me being interested in the latest developments though :)

PS -I can't view any of the reviewer videos where I am, I'm not missing that in the slightest, tiniest bit.
