You use the control dial. Works fine for me, I guess I don't see the issue. When you hit the exposure comp button it disables all the other control dial functions until you hit the center button or the shutter button.

I shoot in A mode very often too, with the S9, I adjust aperture using front dial, i use the rear wheel (or whatever it should be called) to control exposure compensation.
It's not as good as having a rear dial, but it works well enough for me. That's what I did when i was shooting with the S9 + 18-40.
Using focus ring to adjust setting sounds cool, but when i tried it with my Nikon, I found I just mess up the exposure too easily with a lot of my lenses. Like when i use the shoulder strap and hang the camera around my hip, it just change the exposure compensation all the time.
Or maybe it's just me haha

The RRP for this lens here in Australia was set to $899 on launch which I felt was unrealistic. The USD launch price of $499 converts to AUD $760 at the current exchange rate of 0.66.
Thankfully a few camera outlets have now dropped their price in the past week. DigiDirect and Georges Cameras have it at $849 and CameraPro dropped initially to $849 and now to $829. When the price drops to a number starting with a 7, I might think about buying.

Pete, i know we all like to compare prices and see how we got "rip off" by our local branches/shops. But i also feel it may not make us happy person if we always comparing our price with US price.
New Zealand's camera price is typically US price + 20-30% , sometimes even more :/
But then US is a much bigger market than NZ. One mid size US city already has more population than the entire NZ together. So US's economies of scale is completely different to us in the tiny NZ.
Australia is quite a bit bigger than NZ, but still not the same population and density as US.
And don't get the US price doesn't include any sales tax (which is like up to 10% or so) while we in Aussie or NZ price is always GST inclusive. If you add 10% to $499US then it's much closer.
But just to make you feel better, NZ price is NZ$998 which is $908 AUD (converted using xe.com)
And the UK price is £519 which is AUD $1015!

Yes, fair comment Richard. And the Australian RRP was likely set using a forecast of the expected USD/AUD exchange rate over the coming 12 months, so me calculating the price using the current spot rate is a bit unfair.
But I am hoping that maybe a few black Friday sales may help the price go down a bit more!
I use it the same as you other cameras like S5ii.
I could use the back wheel, but then I have to move the thumb at a place I dont like and the wheel is flimsy.
As Charles said, there is a button for it as a toggle, but it is a toggle.
Other than that it would be good if the "P" would be "keep the aperture as open as possible and the wheel is for exp. compensation only". Now it does that sometimes but it is a bit random.
Now I have my setup for the day, I need a really small prime for evenings, in the 30mm range. I do not need perfect corners, or breathing compensation perfection. Samyang, update your 35 F2.8 and sell it in L mount!

It's not "really" small, but the Sigma 35/2 iSeries is not too big and it's a beautiful lens that performs impeccably.
yes... but I have the lumix 35 1.8 (it is what I use now for evenings), so a new purchase must be substantially smaller.
I am intrigued by the 45mm, but I am not sure it is not too tight for general use. I use the 35mm ten times more often than the 50mm...

I agree about 35mm being much more useful than 50mm. I have the Sigma 35/2 and the Lumix 50/1.8. The Sigma gets way more use. Not only is the focal length better, but it's a better performer optically and it also has a much nicer feel to it.

I have both Lumic 35 and 50, I always liked 35, but recently I started to embrace the 50mm too. Like it for portraits of my kids in the forest.
I think that the S9 with 18-40 would be a fantastic travel camera. But I willl have to save up again for this expensive hobby.
I change from being a consultant at ministry of defense to a ministry of defense employee. So no more company car, but have to buy my own family car for the first time in 20 years. Camera gear is a much more affordable hobby !! But I’m really happy with their offer for a better position. Still same military base… which I like.

My Lumix 50 is spectacular. It's really really good, right from wide open. I mostly use it at vehicle shows, I bought the 85mm as well, but you need quite a bit more working room with the 85mm.
I think the Sigma 65mm f2 would be a really nice compromise between the two, I was rather enamored with the m4/3 Sigma 30mm f1.4, which gives the same FOV

I use mine wide open without hesitation all the time and it is sharp. At least for a 24mp sensor it is. Like it way more then the Sigma 45. Which was too clinical stopped down and at 2.8 it was not sharp. Bokeh might be better at that point.
But I won’t need a slow 18-40 for my s5ii anyway. Only makes sense to me with S9 or Sigma fp L. But for those cameras it is a no brainer and a must have imho.
One use case I can think of for me is to bring it alongside the 24-105 as a wide angle option. Also great for people with a 28-105 / 28-70 / 28-200
