Leica SL3-S on January 16th?

It is a very beautiful camera. But I always thought that for video creation is way more practical to have 2 excellent midrange cameras like the S5iix than just 1, I mean for interviews, podcasts, etc. you need more than just 1 camera, right?

Actually this Leica is like the S5iix with a better evf, a tilt screen (!?) and Cfexpress card slot, but without full anamorphic recording feature.

For that price you can buy 2 Lumix S5iix...

And if I understand correctly, no recording to SSD, slower analog shutterspeed.

I can't see any potential buyers bothered by no SSD recording or video. It's not Leica etiquette to stick this in a cage with all the mess.

I don't know why they bothered with internal Pro-Res and CF express?

Plus no internal fan?

Very strange

According to the German Leica page, it can record directly to SSD.
What do you mean by "analog" shutter speed? The mechanical shutter of the SL3-S goes down to 1/8000, same as the S5IIx.

Sorry, I'm very unclear.... I should not do 10 things at the same time. 7 FPS, while the S5ii(X) can do 9 FPS. I understood CF Express instead of SSD, but I might be mistaken.

I was mistaken, SSD is possible:

I understand. But the S5II(X) can only do AF-S at 9 fps (if that hasn't changed via update and only 7 fps with AF-C in mechanical shutter.

According to the German press text, it can do both. CF Express and SSD.

I got my data from Petapixel... But yes, I added it to the post before, Gordon Laing states it can use SSD's..

But for me, I'll still prefer the S5iiX.

Chris Nichols’ summary on Petapixel:

There will be those who love the Leica brand and will happily purchase the SL3-S regardless of the price. Existing SL users may also see merit in upgrading their older cameras to take advantage of the autofocus and shooting speed improvements. It’s important to remember that the Leica is a perfectly capable camera system and very enjoyable to use. My complaint stems almost solely from the fact that you are paying more than double the price at $5,300 for a camera that is largely identical to the Panasonic S5 IIX in capability. I would take the Panasonic every time. Let’s also consider that the SL3-S is way more expensive than the Nikon Z8, Canon EOS R5 mkII, and Sony A7RV. These cameras which are vastly superior to the SL3-S in so many ways make any sort of logical comparison impossible. As much as I can enjoy using the SL3-S, I can’t think of any situation where I would happily recommend it.

Leica's target audience won't be perturbed by such inconveniences as prices. None of Leica's pricing ever made any sense to me - and I used to sell them. They make beautiful cameras.
Exactly, many people simply don't understand luxury brands including that clueless YouTuber.

You never hear Leica R.I.P rumours and they'll be around when everyone else has died.

If the Leica SL3-s is almost 95% of a Lumix S5iix, then now is sure that the Lumix S1Rii is 95% of a Leica SL3, but cheaper Z04 Flucht
I expect that is the reason why we have to wait for the S1RII…
The body will be different to the SL3 and hopefully the mechanics of the display. I have no use for the Leica version, because I do a lot of portrait-format pictures where a simple tilt screen is no help at all. The mechanics of the S1R was not perfect, but ok.
But at the end the price of the S1RII will be the most important topic! My camera is great , costs 2400€ in 2020 and the only thing that could be better is the AF in strong backlight. For action I use the S5II.
If the new S1RII will be released over 3000€ (and that is my expectation), I will wait until it will drop below this line…

I read the comments about the PetaPixel review above and saw this thumbnail in my YouTube feed:

...and decided I wouldn't bother watching this. PetaPixel content has become mostly click-bait.
