Latest S1ii rumours

Regarding the rear screen.... I took a look at the GH7's arrangement and whilst it's certainly better than the S5, I think that the current S1/S1R design is better for stills photographers. The problem with the GH7 screen is that to use the camera low-down in portrait orientation, you'd need to swivel it 180 degrees and have it dangling under the camera (like with the current S5). It's also quite a bulky design in terms of thickness. It's not a deal-breaker though; I guess there was no way the old S1 design would have been taken forward and at least it's an improvement on the S5.

I had a look, that is very bulky, not sure I'd like that myself. I'm happy enough with the slim flippy.

I couldn't see detail in that terrible low res supposedly leaked photo so I don't know who concluded it was the same as GH7. I definitely don't trust that photo which showed no top LCD either. It looked like S5ii to me.

My Sony A1 has a tilt up/down screen like the S1/S1R, and I like it. About the GH7 screen, I'm coming from the S1H with its combined tilt and swivel screen which is REALLY bulky, so the GH7 is lithe by comparison. The Sony A9iii has a combined screen that doesn't look as bulky as the GH7 screen in its pictures. The new Sony A1ii must use that as well. The rumor compared the S1Rii screen to the A9iii/A1ii screen, so (stretching) it could be the S1Rii has a screen thinner than the GH7.

An issue with the GH7 screen, it only tilts up, but not down. This leads to two problems. 1. If you want to have the camera over your head you need to use the swivel mode. 2. The low-down portrait mode you described. I've never used portrait mode for low-down photos, but should I ever get an urge to do it with the GH7 I'd need to use the approach you described. I've never handled the A9iii. Maybe it's screen can also tilt down. And (now really stretching) maybe Panasonic has copied that and the S1Rii will have a screen that keeps everyone happy.

The most interesting rear screen I’ve seen is the one on some of the high-end Pentax models like the K-1:

Can tilt fully to any side, and IIRC there’s a way to flip it fully around.

Over engineered, highly restrictive and can only flip from the top. This only FF offering was the reason I sold my Pentax digital gear for Lumix. The K1 was a brick with terrible AF even on release for a DSLR.

Overengineered, I certainly won’t quibble with that! And I never used one, so I can’t say how well it worked in practice. But it did seem like one of the few attempts I’ve seen to do something with movement axes beyond either a simple vertical flipper, or a swivel.

What I imply by over engineered was all that thought and toughness for a design that had less scope than a simple flippy. A bit like doing crazy engineering on a car that can only do 50mph.

Videos of people hanging their K1 by the screen etc. was typical Pentax, same as the water dunking stuff. Pentax would waste development on all kinds of quirky stuff like this and 127 different colour combinations whilst ignoring important developments in AF and video as a poor substitute. They ignored their customer base which is why they've been in a coma and on their last legs (excuse the pun regarding that 4 legged screen).

Fact is plenty of screens still broke or were faulty and rain destroyed my first Pentax DSLR "through the screen seals". They did give me a new one which also broke as did every one as they supplied a crappy aperture control solenoid and never admitted it... So that's what I meant by over engineering quirky tech that had less function.

Adversely Lumix are doing a great job, obviously listen and study the market especially with the S5ii and the upcoming S1Rii. Video aside, the most prominent feature as always will be the AF performance from a photographer's point of view. We all know the video will be brilliant as ever.

Wouldn't it be good if you could insert NVME mini M.2 drives. I hate cables and external peripherals!

This has 2TB Capacity, Read 5000MB/s, Write 3800MB/s. View attachment 8614

Similar size to CF express with faster speeds but heat removal could be an issue.

2TB CF cards are available so what's the point of external SSDs?
CFexpress B from Angelbird - 4 TB
Price: 1,439.99€ Z04 975

The 2 TB version costs 719.99€

I use a Samsung SSD on my S5IIx that costed me 200€

This is getting better and better Z04 Sabber

- Multi-Angle-Screen like A9III/A1II
- Body size about the same of the Lumix S5II (just a tiny bit thicker)
- Weather-sealed and ventilated
- RED record button in front of the camera on the corner near the mount
- red Tally in front and on the back fo the camera

I think I'm going to make a savings plan between now and November, which is my birthday... Does anyone need online Spanish language classes? I used to be a teacher of Spanish language... Z04 PhotosZ04 Kaputtlachen

I don’t like flippy screens at all. I rather have something like a Fuji X-T3 implementation. But I’m afraid that upgrading is expensive. My gut feeling is that LUMIX gear devalue much faster then i.e. Fuji.

Yesterday I saw an ad for the S5D with 28-200 for 1699. That would mean 700€ for a new s5 body…

In the comments of L-rumors, someone made ascreenshot of this video (min 3:10)

He blurred it afterwards (hahahahaha)

I see two things: the shape of the EVF looks similar to the S1R/S1/S1H

The top right wheel is now more centered, which is great because on the S5ii it was easy to accidentally move it

That is a smart move to have a cheap option for the entty level market available without additional production costs. The S5 is an old model without the latest features. It is still a very good camera.

Sony is doing the same with their 6xxx and A7xxx lines for years. New models arrive, but the old models are still available at a lot cheaper price.

Nikon did the same in the DSLR area. I do not know how many different 3xxxx and 5xxx models were available at the same time. It was crazy.

So, this is nothing to be worried about. It is just a normal marketing strategy to offer something at all price levels without additional costs for the manufacturing.

But this only helps for specific kind target group, which looks only at the price level. The other kind of entry level target group, which looks only for a small and cheap body/lens combination will not buy it, because the body is too big for them.

It looks like a Sony A7Cii or A7CR... but I wish some similar Lumix camera for April, it would be great Z04 Flucht

Yes, I made a bigger screenshot on PC and exchanged the old smartphone screenshot and it looks like that on the upper left hand side it is written Alpha 7CR. I did not know that the Sony exists in green... what a bummer...

I guess the S1Rii will have again at last 5.6MP EVF. Maybe even more? But more than 5.6MP would make the camera more expensive.

The button layout is definitely different to the S5ii. If they can really keep the size of the S5Rii the same as the S5ii, this would be great.

It doesn't, but you can buy skins. You also could do so for Lumix cameras:
