I'm very happy with my S1R. For slow photography (what I do most of the time) it really excels. But a smaller and lighter body would be nice. It would be almost irresistible if they added OM-like ND features (Live ND, Live GND), and Live Comp. Those features would probably push me over the edge.

It has to be the IMX366, what else could it be, it's certainly not the 61MP anyway which you personally may have hoped for but they can do sports camera performance with the IMX366 and much superior video which is probably more in demand and doesn't butt heads with the Leica SL3.

I agree. I was always a bit suspicious of Panasonic doing a "me too" SL3. The SL3 is second-rate at video which would make zero sense for a company whose focus is on first-rate video packaged into a hybrid stills body. A 44Mp fast sensor that delivers top-class 4k, 6k, and 8k video as well as high-frame-rate stills makes way more sense. And 1.5s of pre-capture allied to 40fps will work very well for wildlife and action photographers. Let's just hope that the AF stands up to scrutiny for this sort of photography.

So yes, it's a clever choice. I have high hopes. And even for a slow stills shooter like me, 44Mp is more than enough. In fact, it's basically the same as the OG S1R, and there's nothing wrong with its resolution.

If true I could be interested. I would love to trade my Sony A1 for a Panasonic. If it were to have GH7 like video features, then I would start to get excited.

Maybe that is what the "X" is about. A second camera with more video features.

• Will it have a similar "pixel binning feature" like the Leica Q3?

Yes, I'd like to see this as well, but if it is indeed a different sensor then I'm not holding my breath, at least for the initial release.

• Will there be an internal ND filter be included like the Olympus EM1.3, OM System OM1 and OM System OM1ii?

Not me. The OM Live ND filter doesn't work for video. Plus I always have a variable ND filter on hand anyway. But dreaming, if the new LUMIX camera had a physical variable ND filter built in, that would be outstanding. I had that on my old Sony FX3 video camera and have missed it ever since. I seem to recall Panasonic has a patent for a variable ND filter that can fit a full frame mirrorless camera.

I think that's a part of the Organic sensor they're working on. Or were. It's gone pretty quiet, so they've either quietly forgotten about it/shelved it for the present, or are really close to springing it on us.

So 40fps would mean 8K resolution and 12-bit RAWs. I didn’t think they’d do that, but the S5ii is 12-bit in continuous mode so it does look like the answer.

Personally I’m a bit sad it isn’t the 60MP sensor since the image quality from that is superb, but there are two L-Mount cameras currently using it (SL3, fp L) and Panasonic put the emphasis on hybrid cameras, so it does look like a compromise in fast continuous mode in exchange for far better video abilities.

The issue with organic sensors is the details.
Organic sensors have much worse photon-to-electron efficiency, compared to Silicon.
Organic sensors have large degradation with time, and bad stability in performance.
So maybe in mirrored cameras, where live view is used seldom, it could be a possibility, but mirrorless, and video specially, looks like a bad match until they solve such issues, which seems difficult.
As context, all sensor are at the heart solar cells. The efficiency of those cells is at EQE near 1 for the most visible light. But efficiency of organic based solar cells is 2-3 times worse as of 2025. There is no magic solution...

The pre-capture will be fantastic, as will the hand-held HR mode.

40 fps is an impressive spec - if the rolling shutter is manageable. Hopefully the AF system will be able to keep up.

Yeah, I'm with you there, to an extent. On the other hand, if there is a bump in shadow recovery & DR relative to the 60MP sensor, then I think I'm fine with the tradeoff.

Also, the faster sensor should make HR mode more effective (less motion blur) - and handheld at that! That also is a good tradeoff against the 60 MP sensor, IMO. The incrementally deeper & more realistic colors makes for better photographs, IMO - regardless of resolution. Also, minimizes moire.

Indeed. There is also the issue of the size of the body. I would love a more compact and lighter camera.

Questions: I've noticed bad aliasing moire artifacts in Hi-Res 96MP photos taken with my S5iiX, I assume because the camera doesn't have an OLPF in front of the sensor. Do "S1R" models have an OLPF? And/or would a new super Hi-Res mode (176MP or whatever) be expected to have similar issues?
