Yall all know in a few days... Chill.

Whatever it is I'm no buying and no lust either, a 60 MP sensor will have compromise. Wait 10 years and then see

From what I've seen looking at raws from the SL3, it delivers lower noise than the current 47Mp sensor.

Leaving the AF topic aside, the major weak point of the S1R sensor is the crazy noise when taking longer exposure pictures (e.g. 10sec) at ISO 1600 or above. I eben send once my camera to a Panasonic service center and the did the full treatment incl changing the whole sensor unit. But still the noise is really bad. If some is interested I am happy to share a few picture.

An S1Rii with a similar sensor like Nikon has in the Z8/9 would be fantastic.
Perhaps the 2nd camera coming later is then the S1Hii based on the S1Rii but with active fan etc the stuff required for taking 8k videos the whole day long under harsh conditions.
Even at base ISO, if you go pushing LE exposures the chroma noise gets to be an issue. The S1/S5/S5ii are much better in this regard.

It seems like we will not get a new 60 Mpix camera. But that that sensor would deliver very good image quality, even at higher ISO. Hopefully Panasonic don't trades to much Image quality for speed.

If there’s 2 cameras due, I’d be surprised if at least one of them wasn’t using the 60MP sensor. If they bought bulk for an SL3 joint venture they’d probably be locked into some sort of purchasing contract.

Andrea Pizzini says now that the camera to be presented Feb 25th will be called "S1XII"

I think he meant "S1IIX"...

...will it be more appealing for videocreators because of its features?

So, I guess the presence of the X means there might be one without the X? Although TBH, I never really understood the point of the S5ii/S5iiX split. The additional video features of the X could always be added with a firmware purchase.

Either way, I have a feeling this might be an IMX 366-based camera. In general, I think that is good news.

The name leaves room for speculation..Also the wording of the rumor site leaves everything open:

But the name will NOT be S1rII but rather S1XII. My sources and I were fooled to believe the name would be S1r…but Panasonic decided to go for a completely new name!!!!

I interprete it this way: One of the 2 new cameras is a successor of the S1R. But with a totally new name. Still it is a successor.

The letters S1iix indicates that there will be 2 different versions. One for photography (S1ii) and one more for video optimized (S1iix), similar to the S5ii and S5iix.

Or he got the wrong information and the names will be S1Rii and S1iix.

Lets take some popcorn ...

He states he has a typo:

I was fooled: Panasonic will announce the S1RII on February 25!

So folks, Panasonic told my sources a new high resolution camera would be announced on February 25. UPDATE: The source made a typo…it is named S1rII. Sorry folks, what an embarrassing typo form the source

The R key is nowhere near the X key on keyboards... What an idiot Z04 Smileys26 Z04 Motzer :p

After the X/R confusion, Andrea finally shared some specifications:
New 44 MP “high speed” sensor
40fps in electronic shutter
10fps in mechanical shutter
8 stops image stabilization
1.5 second pre-capture
Open-Gate
Price around $3,500
Announcement: Feb 25, 1-2pm London time

I'm looking forward to more information.

New 44 MP “high speed” sensor

For me two questions regarding that sensor would be very important to know:

  • Will it have a similar "pixel binning feature" like the Leica Q3?
  • Will there be an internal ND filter be included like the Olympus EM1.3, OM System OM1 and OM System OM1ii?

If true that IMX366 sensor has truly impressive readout speeds...

BSI not stacked (good)

Especially for video 8k 60fps, 4k 120fps, 720fps 1080p etc all uncropped

They've basically upped the data channels and speeds similar to bus speeds technology in computers, Xbox etc. giving that much boosted performance.

I'm glad I don't need it... £££ ;)

Pizzini says that the S1Rii will compete with the Canon R5 ii and the Sony A1 ii...

The S1R ii being much cheaper... And I hope it will compete with the Nikon Z8 too.

But we need to know the new features.

But even if the S1Rii competes with the big boys, 3.500€ is way above what I am willing to pay.

I still hope for a smaller and cheaper FF and/or MFT camera. My S5ii is basically all I need. I only want to have it smaller.

.... and I want to see a small 28mm and 43mm lens with excellent image quality Teufel Grinsend Schwanz

If that bit is true then it's not the Sony IMX366 since that maxes out at 26fps full-frame.
But there are faster modes at slightly lower resolutions:

$3500 at launch will be a very good price. Looks like they won't be doing an OM-Systems pricing mistake ($2k for the OM-3).

Yes, 3.500 list price at launch is a good value compared to other models in that league.

But if I do not need the 44MP or the probably excellent video features, I would spend too much money for something I do not really need.
