Latest S1ii rumours

Panasonic also kind of teased something on there Lumix Instagram account about three days ago:

It's rather unusual to make a post about two very old models, that are at the end of there life span, when it's not about the successors.

I just hope that the second camera is not a S1D... Z04 Breakdance.gifZ04 Carrotz04 dance00

That is a very interesting post. The S1R isn’t just old. It’s defunct. It’s discontinued. I cannot buy one here new. I only ever see them used, and the reseller links off the Lumix official website have been inactive for years.

Why would they post a picture hyping a product they don’t even sell anymore?

My first thought on reading

Here's to another year of pushing creative boundaries with the LUMIX S1 & S1R

was that they've seen the rumours and are telling us not to get too excited just yet because the new cameras won't be ready for another 12 months.

Yes, it's weird. On Panasonic Japan's website they have a summary of their cameras, split by G (m43) and S models. The only S models they list are the S5ii/x and the S9.

Andrea from L-rumors shared a video message on his YouTube channel where he's talking more about the second camera that will be announced after the S1Rii or along with it. According to his sources will be very competitive in what it can do and also in price. It seems that his sources are very positive about it. He still doesn't share what it will be. But I think S1II would be a good guess.

The S1R and S1H are still shown on the Australian Panasonic website: https://www.panasonic.com/au/consumer/lumix-cameras-video-cameras/lumix-cameras/lumix-s-cameras.html

I've seen this before, i.e. some markets still have older models advertised and available.

I saw the video. He says that the second new Lumix camera is able to do something better than the Sony, Canon and Nikon cameras at a much lower price. And it will shake the market and will get more market share for Lumix

Any idea what that could be? Better autofocus in low light with some lidar focusing system integrated to be able to focus in darkness? Or maybe the option to extract raw 16 bit photo files from video frames? Any other ideas?

Maybe they have scaled up the GH7 sensor to full frame and additionally have done some pixel binning. So they have got a fast sensor with increased DR and even better low light performance compared to normal sensors. With current stacked sensors, you trade off DR and high iso performance for speed.

But maybe they are using a stacked Sensor, like everyone else, but they got some more features out of it.

I'll go waaaaaay out on a limb, and suggest an Organic sensor with proper Global shutter. They've been curiously quiet on the Organic sensor for quite some time now, could be the reason for all the delay, maybe they've finally got it production ready :)

But could that also undermine the competition in price? Maybe if you only take the A9III as competition. It's even hard to imagine Panasonic could make a stacked Sensor camera, what's currently is the most realistic one, cheaper than the Nikon Z8.

That's the thing, you don't need a stacked sensor to get a Global shutter with an Organic sensor. From the White papers I've read on it anyway, From what I can make out/understand, the rest of the sensor architecture is standard BSI CMOS, or very similar
