Well, I just downloaded the firmware update for my S5II and S5IIX. I'm very happy with both of these cameras. They allow me to make professional video content. They are the two best mid-range hybrid cameras on the market, in my opinion (and I've thoroughly studied Sony and Nikon cameras in the same price range and sensor range). I hope they last me many years.
As for the firmware update, I miss the Hybrid zoom and the MP4 lite codec for these two cameras.
Regarding the rest of what was announced and presented yesterday:
Let it be clear that my criticisms are intended to be constructive criticism. I've spent a lot of money on Lumix and I feel entitled to be critical precisely for that reason. I don't want to upset anyone who has invested money in Lumix products, which not everyone in the camera industry fully understands...
Couldn't they have removed the recording limit from the S9 from the beginning? This has been one of the deal breakers for many people interested in video. But hey, since correcting is wise, Lumix has been right to remove that limit.
As Dirk says, the more S9 or S5D cameras and 26mm f8 MF or 18-40mm f?? collapsible lenses are sold, the sooner the high-end cameras we've all been wanting will arrive.
As for the S1Hii and S1Rii:
I get the impression that Lumix is giving preference to creating video content over photography, because video has always been their strong point.
This means that the long-awaited S1Hii will probably arrive in early 2025.
And what about photographers? Will they have to wait until mid/late 2025?
I remind people on the forum that both the Sony A1 and the Nikon Z9 were released in 2021.
But Lumix is not even capable of putting on the market a photo-centric camera equivalent to the Sony A7R5, with the famous 60mpx sensor. And not even a rangefinder style camera with mechanical shutter and EVF.
As I said yesterday, if within the L-mount alliance Leica puts limits on Lumix for the launch of photography products, then it seems that Lumix has the enemy at home. I know that they collaborate on processors, lenses, color science, video, etc. But it seems that what it gets on one side is taken away on the other. A zero-sum game. Perhaps Dirk knows someone within Leica and has more information on this matter.
So, I completely understand photographers looking for other photography-centric cameras that are better than the S1R, which is a camera that I love, but it was released in February 2019... I'm going to wait a bit, but I'm already observing the Sony A7CR, the Sony A7R5 and the Nikon Z8 with eager eyes... Lumix please, wake up!!
