Firmware update 9th Nov 2024

Thanks, if you can note the transfer speed that would be great, MB/s, don't mix up your bits and BYTES, 1B = 8b :)
I'll try to time it and let you know. Or is there an easier way?

BTW I thought you were retired? Z04 Photos
No, still working. I feel younger than I look. Z04 975 I'm in my early 60's.

Like @Markuswelder I spend time punishing my body to make sure it keeps moving and working. Although not on a bike these days (the old MTB is in the shed). I was at the gym at 6:30am this morning for a PT session and will go for a run this evening.

Well, I just downloaded the firmware update for my S5II and S5IIX. I'm very happy with both of these cameras. They allow me to make professional video content. They are the two best mid-range hybrid cameras on the market, in my opinion (and I've thoroughly studied Sony and Nikon cameras in the same price range and sensor range). I hope they last me many years.

As for the firmware update, I miss the Hybrid zoom and the MP4 lite codec for these two cameras.

Regarding the rest of what was announced and presented yesterday:

Let it be clear that my criticisms are intended to be constructive criticism. I've spent a lot of money on Lumix and I feel entitled to be critical precisely for that reason. I don't want to upset anyone who has invested money in Lumix products, which not everyone in the camera industry fully understands... Z04 975

Couldn't they have removed the recording limit from the S9 from the beginning? This has been one of the deal breakers for many people interested in video. But hey, since correcting is wise, Lumix has been right to remove that limit.

As Dirk says, the more S9 or S5D cameras and 26mm f8 MF or 18-40mm f?? collapsible lenses are sold, the sooner the high-end cameras we've all been wanting will arrive.

As for the S1Hii and S1Rii:

I get the impression that Lumix is giving preference to creating video content over photography, because video has always been their strong point.

This means that the long-awaited S1Hii will probably arrive in early 2025.

And what about photographers? Will they have to wait until mid/late 2025?

I remind people on the forum that both the Sony A1 and the Nikon Z9 were released in 2021.

But Lumix is not even capable of putting on the market a photo-centric camera equivalent to the Sony A7R5, with the famous 60mpx sensor. And not even a rangefinder style camera with mechanical shutter and EVF.

As I said yesterday, if within the L-mount alliance Leica puts limits on Lumix for the launch of photography products, then it seems that Lumix has the enemy at home. I know that they collaborate on processors, lenses, color science, video, etc. But it seems that what it gets on one side is taken away on the other. A zero-sum game. Perhaps Dirk knows someone within Leica and has more information on this matter.

So, I completely understand photographers looking for other photography-centric cameras that are better than the S1R, which is a camera that I love, but it was released in February 2019... I'm going to wait a bit, but I'm already observing the Sony A7CR, the Sony A7R5 and the Nikon Z8 with eager eyes... Lumix please, wake up!!

Me too. But I hope it will be available in a future update for these cameras too.

I fully agree. We do not know what the thinking behind this long waiting time or (if it is a delay) what the reason for this delay is. We will never know. But for sure Panasonic is risking with this to loose current costumers and potential prospects. Once someone buys into another system, he will not switch back after 6 months again (at least in most cases).

The S5, S5ii and S9 launches and all the FW updates were smart moves. But the upgrades of the S1R and S1H really need to come sooner than later or at least a communication about when we can expect them. Communication is everything. If you do not talk with your customers, you will loose them. It is just a question of time.

The Sony A7RV is an almost perfect camera if you look at all its features. On top of that you get all these nice Sigma L-Mount lenses also in Sony E mount. I do not understand why Panasonic does not see the risk they take with their lack of communication.

Fortunately we have this L-Mount forum. We can talk about our wishes, fears and concerns. That makes it easier to be patient. But what is about the other 99% L-Mount users who do not visit forums? You loose them with this lack of communication.

It is sad to see this if you know how easy it would be to fix this problem. Communication costs nothing but it means the world.

I have current wifi transfer speed at all times in the top bar on the screen, I'm sure you can enable this on iPhone somewhere.
I couldn't find any way in settings to display transfer speed on the iPhone.

I transferred one JPEG from the camera to the iPhone and timed it at just over 3 seconds. The file size was 10,724 Kb.

The "shutter remote control" and the "remote shooting" don't work with the Lumix Lab App...

"Expected to be compatible with: DC-S5M2, DC-S5M2X, DC-G9M2, DC-GH7"

I assume it just work with the S9. I tried the Lumix Sync app and it does work, because I wanted to use my smartphone as a video assist, but I imagine this feature is better implemented in the Lumix Lab App, that also can be used to do the firmware updates...

For now camera control is only in the Lumix Sync App for the S5ii(x), G9M2 and GH7 for now. They stated this will be fixed in a future update...

Yes, I just updated the S9 firmware with the Lumix Lab App on my iPhone. It was fairly quick and easy. And all the new functions seem to be working well.
