I'll definitely know after updating my S5ii in several hours but this suggests the S9 gets AF detection updates and not the S5ii/X.

Otherwise I'm really looking forward to LumixLab, wish it did RAW though.

Hopefully the 5GHz wifi band vastly improves the existing tortoise data transfer but I don't know why the 2.4GHz band was so crippled in the first place. I hope I'm not disappointed but expect to be :(

LUT button could be good for my never used AF ON rear button if that is possible, it says FX button assignment.

Leica mono is worth a try.

It's not too bad for a minor update but why not the AF detection modes, no train will mean Pete not happy

No mention of hybrid zoom either unless they're leaving this out of S5ii on purpose along with AF detection modes in favour of S9. Why though? I doubt it's hardware limitation.

Pete has the S9. Pete is happy :)

I am sure that this will come sooner or later also to the S5ii. They said in the live stream that they will continue to improve the cameras with more FW updates.

At the end of the day this is cheaper for both, the producer and the consumer vs. making a new camera and buying it for these smaller things.

I'm skeptical about that bit, they would have done it with this firmware update.

I wouldn't be blowing too much sunshine up their asses either, they have a small market share in a fierce market so rather need to be continually booted up their asses, this is what is actually good for them and us.

I'd have loved to see train detection in the S5II as that's the camera I use for rail photography with the bigger lenses. But I get sharp train photos just fine without it so this is not a problem for me.

I bought the S5II because it did what I wanted it to do with the original firmware. Anything added later in firmware is a complete bonus and I am really happy that Panasonic do that. They seem to do it much more than other camera manufacturers. Sony rarely does it for existing models and when they have done it recently, the firmware has serious bugs and gets pulled.

I am long past the point of wasting my time griping and moaning about what is or isn't in firmware updates, or debates suggesting that Panasonic isn't interested in meeting the needs of stills photographers. Honestly, the biggest limitations I have by far with my two Panasonic cameras is [a] a lack of time and the skill of the person operating the camera.

My mantra: take photos (or videos, or both) and be happy!! Z04 Carrot

...

I'm pretty sure, if the S9 got it, the S5II/x will get it. Panasonic usually gives new features also from newer cameras as long the hardware can handle it.

They are slow in terms of bringing new hardware. But they are reliable in bringing new features to existing hardware.

You mean "in a few weeks"? This "update" is as exciting as a new cable release with a red shutter button, instead of the old black one ... no "yawn" smiley here? A 18-40 lens, apparently delayed as it should have appeared together with S9 and the announcement of a very mediocre FW update. So what? Who cares?

No a few hours... Daumenhoch

In line with LUMIX’s continuous commitment to supporting creators, the latest firmware updates will be available to download free of charge from the LUMIX Global Customer Support website on 9th October 2024.

It's a minor update i.e. the .1 bit in 3.1

I care, I am glad to get the update, I'm counting down the seconds here and a bottle of Chardonnay ready to crack open Z04 Cowboy

I think everyone has a different opinion about it. I used the new app with my Lumix S9 a lot with my Samsung S9 tablet and I really liked it.

I am glad that my S5ii can use that app now too. That alone is a winner for me.

I just do not understand why people get always mad as soon as they did not get what they desired the most.

We all bought our cameras "status quo at that time". As Pete said, we have made that decision and we were happy with it.

Now we get an improvement of thst status quo for free and we start complaining?

How many hours have we worked this year for free? Most of us zero.

If a client would propose that we should work the next 6 weeks without salary to do a project for him, what would be our answer?

What would we have said, if Panasonic would have announced a Lumix S6 with train detection and Lumix Lab app support. Would we have been happy to pay another 1600€?

We have to be more realistic I think. We should calm down. There was no event and our wildest dreams did not happen. Time to move on and wait for the next release. Hardware or FW. We can still take great photos with our existing cameras ;)

I think we are now buying with the expectation of continued support and updates the same with phones or an Apple Mac getting updates.

Nobody is working for free, this is the package we are being sold. It's totally in Panasonic's business interest to improve their Lumix cameras having ~ 5% market share. Panasonic ain't a good will charity, they work to try and make more money like any other business.

Updates mean the likes of S5ii becomes an even more attractive product to sell.

Another argument is that it should already have been able to do 5GHz and whatever else and that it is originally sold underdeveloped.

Yeah I'm looking forward to the LumixLab, this is not free either, we all pay for this when buying equipment.

I'll be trying out the LUTs properly this time as it seems to be enabled to be as easy as the S9? implementation.

Maybe 2am GMT these updates appear as it was last time, maybe 12pm in Japan or something?

Tick tock tick tock

Dirk, please just do me a favor and delete my account. I'm fed up with especially your comments, with the flood of advertisements and I don't see any reason to become a patreon here. Since you are the host/administrator you're also the one determining the style of answers. And if the other members are fine with that, all the better. This is simply not the place to stay for me. I already thought at L-rumors the people behave like blind brainwashed fanboys, maybe it has to do something with this brand, it's market share and a rather dime future for it. The thing in common is "going ballistic as soon as someone dare to criticizes the brand". And about working for free: Speak for yourself, you have no clue what others do!!!

I think you are right. With your ongoing insults, you do not fit in this friendly community.

Maybe another forum is a better match for you. ;)

Correct! Daumenhoch Smilie

My cameras continue to work well, and with new firmware when it arrives will be even better. No complaints from me!

I can report as I type the 5GHz transfer is as slow as it was with 2.4GHz taking ages to transfer 117 RAWs varying 3-6.9 MB/s.

No surprise as I said earlier it wouldn't be faster.

Hmmm...strange. I noticed it was faster on the S9. I've not updated yet (still at work here) but will try tonight.

Yeah there was an update for Android also.

Meanwhile I like the LumixLabs app, the LUT downloader and transfer to camera is fantastic and so easy, 39 LUTs for storage.

Still no RAW editing or remote control for S5ii/X but the latter is promised.

You know a slick app like this really adds to the overall camera experience. I like wireless transfers afterall it is 2024 but wondering why I only got 6.9 MB/s max transfer speed on 5GHz, not faster than previous 2.4GHz band. For example my 5G mobile internet speed downloads are 30MB/s (bytes not bits). Phone is connected directly to wifi in camera, not through the router.

But great to get LumixLabs at last Good Job11000018775.jpg1000018777.jpg1000018779.jpg

Thanks, if you can note the transfer speed that would be great, MB/s, don't mix up your bits and BYTES, 1B = 8b :)

BTW I thought you were retired? Z04 Photos
