28mm Leica and Voigtlander M lenses on Lumix S cameras!

I rarely use it wide open because I shoot landscapes with it. I can compare it to the Sigma 24mm f/3.5. The Sigma is a bit smoother across the field and also has good contrast, but it doesn't have the same great sunbursts as the Voigtlander. The problem is, the 24mm is neither here nor there for me.
p/s I duplicated it on another host. Honestly, Flickr is really messing things up.

Looks much better! Good with S9... Hoping the S1RII will perform with a 28mm F2.8 color skopar. Have not found anything discussing this sensor with short VM lenses yet. After seeing the improvement of my 40mm F1.4 Nocton Classic on the S1RII compared to my S1 and results like this on the S9 I'm getting close to buying one even if the wide apertures suffer. The 21mm is tempting as well. Having compact lenes on a lighter more compact body means my camera will carry with me much more often.

The 21mm f3.5 from what I have read shows the least degradation of the VM wide lenses with Lumix cameras. I'm tempted to try this on my S1RII. Even if it is lacking at wider apertures. Having compact lenses means I carry my camera much more frequently. 28mm color skopar may be worth it as well due to the lack of L 28mm lenes.

I took the plunge and purchased the 28mm f2.8 Color Skopar II VM and it arrived yesterday. From the results I have gotten with the S1RII on my first outing it looks very promising. The Vignette is heavy at 2.8 and the slightly soft edges wide open seem to be much like the examples I have seen online with M camera. Stopped down to f8 it is sharp and overall very good! Using the LLL close focus Helicoid with the 28 it doesn't seem the have the same issue that the 21mm f3.5 has with focus shifting across the field when focused closer than the stock lens minimum focus distance. Lens charts will be needed to explore this more closely.

It looks like Panasonic has improved the sensor stack with the S1RII. I will report results using this 28mm with my S1.

The Forum Master here @dirk pretty constantly complains there is not a 28mm L-Mount prime, and that 28mm is his favorite focal length.

Yes and I still complain about it Z04 Motzer

It is simply a shame that after 8 years of L-Mount there is nothing else than a huge DSLR version of an old Sigma 28/1.4 lens and an overpriced and huge Leica lens. We re talking about one of the most used focal length in the camera world and not about a niche 800mm Sport tele lens.

The shame becomes even bigger, if you realize how many different 35mm lenses we got within these 8 years (around 7) plus many versions of 50mm and 24mm.

This is not a smart way to build a system which shall attract as many new costumers as possible. Due to this "lack of strategic thinking", the L-Mount alliance is loosing every year thousand of new costumers to Sony, Nikon, Canon and Fuji.

Who is responsible for this at Panasonic and Sigma and when does that person finally wake up? Z04 Head WallZ04 Repa

Agreed!

Where is the 28mm? This question will be a thorn I will continue to push... Wake up L Alliance !!!

I see there is an iminant launch of a 40mm f2 from Panasonic. Looks like an interesting lens. Compact and light. 40mm is another favorite of mine. Still not crazy about Panasonic build quality with the plastic feel. It will be interesting to here reports on the performance . The lack of controls on the new lens is of concern. It seems the market is for a dumbed down approach which leaves professionals and avid amateurs in the dust. Hardly what should be expected for a top of the line camera system.

Happy for now with the VM 40mm f1.4 Nocton. It would be great if there is a new 28mm lens that has better wide aperture performance even though I like to use this lacking on the Nocton for creative ends..

I have to say I am really enjoying the features (and results) from the S1RII. I'm slowly refining the features I use without having to venture into the system menu.

Trying to edit this last post on my phone and cannot get it to work. Inadvertently posted twice. Wanted to add to the post the 28mm f2.8 VM to the happy list but will have to wait for more results. So far it's looking good for such a tiny lens... Kudos to Panasonic for improving the sensor stack on the S1RII

Where can I view photos from the scopar?

The complaint goes out to Sigma as well from me. I would love a 28mm f2 contemporary. I have the 65mm f2 and it is awesome. Imagine a real gem of a 28mm contemporary! I have even written to Sigma headquarters and North America distribution about the lack of a 28mm and not a peep in return. Your emogi head bang says it all...

I am afraid that Lumix is thinking about video Profis with this lens:
-Focus Breathing Suppression
-Micro-step Aperture Control
-Selectable Linear Focus Control
-Compact and Lightweight Design, ideal for use with small gimbals
-Customizable Physical Controls, the fun button can be assigned to video features like Focus Hold or Crop Zoom
-Silent Focusing

For pure photographers maybe the Sigma contemporary line is more adequate.

As Dirk pointed out there is a plethora of 35mm lenses. I would buy a Contemporary 28mm if Sigma made one. You tell me what is available in L Mount? If you are serious about video there are a wide range of Purley Come lenses. With a PL adapter all many of the best cine lenses are available to you. Where are the contact cine lenses??

The new 40mm f2 looks good for YouTube bloggers. Not exactly a professional cine lens. The features you describe do look interesting though.

A little help for photographers please!! It looks like suppling one of the most useful lenses (28mm) in L Mount is an impossible mountain to climb. Only asking for a lightweight compact high quality 28mm lens that I don't have to mortgage my house for. The VM Mount 28mm f 2.8 Color Skopar is great. Many thanks Voigtlander. Now can someone make one in L Mount that does not vignette so badly at f 2.8 ? A "bit" more money and a "bit" bigger and heavier is ok. Please please please make one for photographers...A usable f2 would be wonderfull...Maybe then I could sell a few of the four ancient 28mm's I have jury rigged into filling in.

Here are the only options I have found:

PolarPro LightLeak 28mm f/11 Lens (L-Mount) - Inexpensive, probably poor quality

Mitakon Zhongyi Creator 28mm f/5.6 Lens (Leica L) - Compact a bit too slow, quality ??

Venus Optics Laowa Argus 28mm f/1.2 FF Lens (L-Mount) - Monster lens (more stop than I need)

Brightin Star 28mm f/2.8 Pancake Lens (Leica M-Mount, Black) - *** Needs M to L adapter

I have been hunting high and low for an L 28mm... Such a drag the main L mount manufacturers cant get it together. !

The 28mm 2.8 Color Skopar II VM is a surprise for such a small lens. It will be a great carry with the S1RII despite the Vignette at 2.8. That is fixable and can be used to creative advantage. (have not tested it as yet with my S1)
