Phones don't have these either, target market would wonder why you have to stick a device on your face. Phones ain't trendy any longer as there is nothing else you can really do with them, higher specs aren't exciting any longer as they became so good. It's the same market that S9 went after but this looks much better.

It should have associated positives for any L-mount if it does well... Hopefully real pancakes which ain't for you either. I did like the tiny Pentax metal DA Limiteds, opposite end of Sigma Art etc. but probably took my best ever photograph with the tiny 15mm f4. Sigma 17mm f4 is kind of similar in FF and would be a great match on this new Sigma camera.

All the same arguments as for S9, I'm probably more likely to carry it and do more photography than taking out the S5ii with 24-105 and more enjoyable to use.
 
The Sigma BF is for me a revolutionary camera in two different ways. On one hand the design. Some might remember some Leica cameras which tried the same and obvioulsy it is very Apple like. Both are good things. The Sigma BF looks phenomenal. I just love the design and the thought process what to leave out (No card slot, no tilting screen, almost no buttons) and what to keep (battery removable, huge internal memory, high MP display, small LCD display, made out of one piece).

On the other hand, I love the strategy behind that Sigma BF. It is not really for "us", the traditional photographer. It is for people who used to have smartphones only, who are NOT content creators and who did NOT want to buy any kind of camera in the past, because they found their smartphones good enough for everything and all cameras too big, too bulky and too complicated.

It is targeted for people who want to take pictures, not "content creators". For people that might be interested in a better image quality than thier smartphone and/or want to have slightly more flexibility with focal ranges. But they will never, ever buy a "real" camera. The Sigma BF is exactly what they are looking for. Stylish, very high quality built and usability as close to their smartphone as possible. No smartphone user wants to deal with memory cards. Many even do not have a PC anymore.

These people are willing to pay a high price. Bear in mind that an Apple iPhone with that kind of memrory costs above 1.500€ and they buy this every year without hesitation. Money is no object here. It is about matching the needs and desires of this target group.

I am so excited. This will shake up the market. This will move the market. Hopefully others will wake up and try to go news ways too. If I would not have already an S9 and if it would not cost 2.000€ and I need my savings for other future cameras, I would immediatey buy one. Z04 Menno

But this is not all yet. There are good news for those, who are not interested at all in the Sigma BF. Who are dying forsmall and light FFL and zooms in L-Mount. With the introduction of the Sigma BF it is clear, that Sigma will now push even more their lens-line up for smaller lenses. These are good news for all of us. Think about a small and light 28mm, 43mm etc. pp.

Great, really great! The future looks bright for all of us!

Have you ever had problems with the internal storage in your Smartphone? I had not a single failure over the last 15 years.

Most likely will outlast you and the camera's useability. You can read the same nonsense about Apple memory by the trolls.

Considering I had 2x Pentax DSLRs die on me before 4k clicks that says it all. Most used cameras for sale only have several 1000 clicks on them average, this is a tiny percentage of what the memory cycle can do.

By the way: The Sigma BF is a strong competition to the very successful Ricoh GR3/GR3x. I heard in a German Youtube review, that you can operate the Sigma BF only with one hand, like the Ricoh GR. Fantastic news.

The most interesting question for me will be the rear screen and how it is in bright sunlight. Ricoh GR is not really good with it.
 
Not for me, even though I absolutely loved my Sigma Fp and FpL, but lack of some totally necessary (basic and obvious) specs pushed me Sony land and the A7CR, still very happy with that decision.
I celebrate anything new for L mount, but at the same time remember the original Leica T from 2014 (come on guys that's eleven years ago), if we're talking solid block aluminium bodies and very sleek design, minimalist buttons and menu system.
I'm obviously not the generation this is aimed for, but to me that entry price is very high and Sigma might have been better to introduce it together with a new lens, even if it meant a higher price, as an excited prospective buyer I would be confused as to what to put with it at this point. Looking at the image above of Chris with the body and huge lens - who is it for??? Weird is the word.

Every reviewer has the right on his own opinion. Pete can live with that, I am sure ;)

According to Chris` first impressions, the Sigma BF has PDAF, electronic shutter only, no IBIS and a different battery than the fp/fpL, by the way.

All reviewers will go out and shoot today (did that today - In Japan it is late afternoon now) and I am sure we will see more reviews tomorrow.

That is the price you have to pay to get the body smaller. I do not think that IBIS is important for that target group.

I borrowed a Sony A7CR from my brother and is a really good camera, I like it a lot. The 61mpx are unbelievable to crop. I am surprised by its video capabilities too. A serious option. Lets see what camera Lumix presents in April...

Do you think the target group of the Sigma BF is similar to the target group of the S9? Is the S9 more video-centric and the Sigma BF more photo-centric? Or it is not about it?

No, I do think they try to focus clearly on a different usergroup than the S9. The way how they removed features and pushed more on design and habits of smartphone users shows this direction. Definitely photography oriented, otherwise they would need to offer a swivel screen and IBIS and then it would be a "S9-me too" product.

I wonder whether Sigma will have the idea to offer i.e. in 1 year additionally a Sigma BF with an EVF and IBIS as an "upgrade path" for the traditional photographer. Would make sense, if you could reuse most of the parts of the BF.
 
It looks really pretty and the build looks epic, but I'd prefer an S9 over this - at least it's got IBIS. Seriously, anyone used to using a smartphone will find it almost impossible to take sharp pics on an FF camera with no stabilisation. Especially since you'll be holding it at arms length like a smelly nappy/diaper since it's got no EVF!

I fully agree. Looks striking and it's certainly a camera that you'd want to have as a nice 'object' - which incidentally takes brilliant pictures. The user interface looks really interesting too: stripped down and intuitive.

But no IBIS? I guess I've been spoilt as my first camera was a Lumix G9 so I don't think I could conceive using a camera without IBIS, but happy to be proven wrong!
