Today Sigma announced 3 different lenses. A 20-200 super zoom (see other thread) and two FFL. A 35/1.2 Mkii and a totally new 135/1.4 tele lens. Impressive....

Let's collect some reviews...

135/1.4

35/1.4 MkII

Certainly a very impressive trio of lenses they've released today. Sigma really are the lens company that dares to make what others only dream of.

Of course, these two will be well beyond my budget but I'm sure they'll be fantastic.

My hope is that due to the release of the new 135mm, the Sigma 135mm F/1.8 DG HSM ART L-mount (sometimes available at MPB) will be available again at around 800 euro or so.

Considering that the 35mm F1.2 Art is my all time favourite lens, there is no chance I'd pass up on it's successor. I know, the Viltrox F1.2 LAB is also a very impressive lens, but they haven't announced it for L mount yet and ultimately, I have some positive feelings towards Sigma (being reasonably priced and high quality while still continuing to manufacture in Japan) and I just wanna support them.

The 135 F1.4 also looks like a top class lens but since one of my main subjects, my wife, wasn't too happy with the rendering on the 105 F1.4 - she said it renders her body proportions unflatteringly - I ended up selling that lens and I don't think 30 mm more tele is gonna help to convince my wife.

Wives are never happy with the portraits their husbands shoot of them - wrong lens, wrong place, technique: there will always be something wrong ;)

Oooh, I really want the 35. But, I’m taking delivery of a Rivian on Friday. Gulp. Need to watch my spending for a while...

Heh. Let us know how you like it; my sister lives in Bloomington, where they make them, so she’s got a certain favorite son support for them.

The launch of the new Sigma 135/1.4 made me curious. All Reviewers rave about it and show reslly nice photos. I never really shot seriously with a 135mm lens. But this new 135/1.4 is out of my reach.

Therefore I researched several videos about the old Sigma 135/1.8 DG HSM from 2017. According to these reviews, the new F1.4 version might be better if you enlarge in photozoom a a lot, but only at the border of the images. Bokeh is almost the same.

So, I decided to try out the old 135/1.8 DG HSM.

There are now really bargains out there second hand for almost half of its list price (I payed 650€) and 1/3rd of the price of the new F1.4.

I hope to get mine this week-end or early next week and will post then some images on the S1Rii.
