Rumors Sigma 20-200mm f/3.5-6.3 travail zoom

F8 is normally enough though (at 24mp) and wide open center also. Played with it. And if you increase the clarity and texture a very small amount, it already makes a huge difference. Not done that on this 100% crop. So after pp it is really good. And yes, I did the F10/11 because you indicated that, but I think I'm going to dial that one down to minimum aperture + 2/3 or 1 stop. Or plain wide open.

Hmm no 20-200 announced today? I was curious to see how the Sigma would compare size/weight wise.

No more info on the 35/1.2 vII either.

@pdk42 I don't want to "fight" or have an argument, but you use very strong discouragement, and I know it is based on you testing the actual lenses. But stating that things like that it is not usable etc. doesn't seem fair either.
Oh don't worry, I'm not going to argue either. So long as you're happy that's what matters. And I know many other people are happy with the 28-200 too. Maybe I got really unlucky, or maybe I'm just expecting too much. But after three tries, I've given up on this lens.

My motivation to post the pictures is not that I try to convince you to try another, but more for other people not to discourage them to try it out for themselves. And stating that the lens is unusable is over 150 is not correct.

Because of your statements I was very cautious to try one out. . And the first copy I got was indeed as you experienced. But when the seller tested the lens and confirmed it was out of spec, only then I asked for a 2nd copy. Otherwise I would have given up on it immediately. My initial thought was to ask my money back. But for 699 it is a good proposition.

Here's what I get out of mine on the S1RII. These are all 200% center crops, snapped from the display of my MBP. All at 200mm.

Top left is wide-open (F7.1). Top right is F10, bottom left is the same F10 image but with diffraction correction enabled in Capture One.

So, I still see the low-constrast "veil" that Paul and I talked about back when the lens was new, at least wide-open @ 200mm.

But stop it down one stop, and the IQ is actually quite good considering the parameters of the lens.

And, is it ridiculous to pixel peep on such a lens? Probably, but I like to give folks an idea of what I mean when I say "it's best stopped down a bit."
