Short tele lens challenge 1.0

No mention of character amongst these lenses here. I never owned the Pentax 77mm Ltd but I know the 3d pop it can produce is something special and makes for unique looking portraits.

I'd love to see the typical modern lens, say the Lumix 85mm vs the Pentax 77mm Ltd in portrait comparisons, I'm not talking about models doing stupid poses beside high rise city windows with a bra on, but any real life stuff, even a nice doggy :D

I haven't seen many Lumix 85 photos, if it produced the 3d pop the Pentax 77 does, I may have still been interested, these kind of qualities are what would sell me a prime lens, otherwise I'll just use my 24-105 @ 85mm f4.

Take a look at Fred Miranda's reviews of the Sigma 45/2.8 and 65/2:

The 45/2.8 was designed with rendering in mind:
https://www.sigma-sein.com/en/ohsone/45mm-f2-8-dg-dn-contemporary/

I've got four of the i-series: 17/4, 24/3.5, 45/2.8 and 65/2, and they all render very nicely.
Thanks, I used to read fredmiranda years ago, yeah they look really good and I liked Jonathan Macs images with I think the 45mm.

Your 17mm f1.7 reminds me a little of the Pentax DA15 f4 for APSC but that was really small, I need to see more images with all these lenses and great photos and not just test shots or snaps to be fully convinced.

The 65 f2 looks good but I still don't think it comes close to what the Pentax 77 Ltd can do for 3d pop, example is the following link which is a fantastic example of it:

If the Lumix 85 f1.8 or others could do similar I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I've still to try my CZ Jena 135mm f3.5 electric on the S5ii plus a few others but none of them are coming close to that extraordinary 3d look of the 77 Ltd, I think some Leica or others can possibly have this level of pop.

The pentaxforums website is great in it has every lens and other equipment listed with ratings and examples listed. Imagine this for Lumix would be nice!

This might be worth a look:

Scroll down to the Group Description and there are links to equivalent groups for the other i-series primes, although oddly there isn't one for the 45/2.8.

There is the possibility to open a new thread for each lens in the lens samples section of LMF and post there example images of only that specific lens.

Between the two of us we have almost all of them - I have the 24/2, 35, 50 and 90. I owned the 24/3.5 for a few months too but sold out when I got the f/2.

Honestly I love all of them, they're great. I'd get the whole set if I had the funds.

Why did you make the change from the 24/3.5 to the bigger/heavier 24/2.0 version?

Me too, I am saving to have them all

Yes, I'd love to have the whole set!

I was hoping Sigma UK would have an offer on them like they did last year, but this year it's the f1.4 DG DN Art lenses (24, 35, 50, 80) and the 105 f2.8 Macro. The only one that interests me is the 105 Macro, but I'm not sure how much I'd use it: I'm happy enough with the 70-300 at 0.5x.

One of the camera stores I purchase from had a 15% discount running on the Sigma 45mm f/2.8 lens on their eBay outlet + a $50 voucher, so I went ahead and ordered it yesterday. It's due to arrive on Thursday. Z04 Discosmilie

I was thinking of buying that just so my 55mm Hoya Fusion Antistatic CPL could still be used :p

LBA is all around us and the feeling shows Z04 Whip2 1

I wanted the extra speed, both for use in lower light and for shallower depth of field. I took quite a few shots with the f/3.5 that would have benefited from more subject isolation, which is not something I had ever been able to do with a wide angle lens before.

Did not know that subforum existed. Thanks for the heads up. I shall busy myself adding some pic's from some lesser known or used lenses :)
That would be great Markus!
