S9 reduced to only £899 Panasonic UK

This is not unusual for Panasonic.

The best price I can find here in Australia is AUD 1,815 excluding tax which equates to GBP 930 at today's rate, so quite close.

These are amazing prices. If Panasonic would have launched at this price level and would have the 18-40mm zoom available at the sane time, they would have sold 3x as many kits.

This is now a similar price level to the new Fuji XM5 offering.

The war has started. Let's see which other brand will enter into this market in 2025...

Well now the kit is £1800, so that was just a glitch in the matrix.

I checked the availability of used bodies at MPB, with pricing for "excellent" condition where available:
Lumix S5 IIX: 2 bodies at €1630
Lumix S5 II: 38 bodies at €1490
Lumix S9: 9 bodies at €1420
Lumix S5: 45 bodies at €780

Surprised to see so many S9 units already. Desirable new camera models are usually in short supply (like... no copies) for some time.
For comparison, the cheapest full-frame (I believe):

Canon EOS RP: 61 bodies at €704

Higher counts make sense, since Canon obviously sells more cameras than Panasonic.

I will continue to recommend the Lumix S5 as the best value camera for people getting into full-frame.

Even if the Canon presumably has much better AF? It's £949 after discount here, S5 is £799 and you can get at least 10% discount again. S5 has more of a pro build and look, much more fledged out, and a higher league besides AF. No IBIS in Canon.

I am not obsessed with AF performance like many seem to be. Decent AF is already good enough. I teach more videography than photography... but both from first principles.

I value IBIS a lot more than the difference between good and superb AF. Would never use a camera without it. IMO it's the best innovation in the digital era, the one that makes the most difference to actual photo quality.

Besides this, we can go personal. I dislike Canon on principle due to their predatory marketing and inferior cameras that they foist on newcomers.

Speaking of the Lumix S9, I just saw a video of the new $60.000 Phase One XC40 camera and it has no EVF...

And the flagship Nikon Z9/Z8 cameras don't have mechanical shutter... Z04 975

... just saying...
