S5ii(X) deadcat

Thanks for the video link Oíche and the background. I will take a look at this!
What is striking is the housing poverty back then, nowadays they still complain whilst having modern housing, 60" TVs in every room and 40k cars I don't have.

Rather a somewhat socialism which is falling apart but that's a topic for elsewhere. it's also the reason why there won't be any reunionification of Ireland which also I won't go into here.Daumenhoch

Thanks again for posting this link, I just watched the video. Beautifully done, and Bill Kirk took some absolutely wonderful photos. It's a good reminder that the gear ultimately isn't important. Being there and taking great images is. Daumenhoch

100%

He's a real photographer, his tale of his cover note from local paramilitaries to be able to do the photography in that area says it all, it was dangerous.

He has many iconic photographs, there is one of a black British soldier standing in the doorway of a pub... It tells a 1000 words, or a 100,000

My wife and I are from a more modern church.
Drum, Bass, Electric and Acoustic Guitars, Piano etc...

This is from last Christmas... Its in 4 parts... Every part starts with a video made by me, before a green screen and the second half is a song:

Sorry, the video's are only in dutch, the songs are in dutch or in english.

I was also behind the mixer, on the ladies singing (the one on the right) is my wife.

For an oncoming project we have a bigger band with: Drum, Bass, Electric and Acoustic Guitars, Piano, Violin and 4 singers.
I will also do the mixing for that.

Nice work. For the musical performance, were there more than 2 cameras (and what cameras were used)? Was the output of the audio mixer recorded by one of the cameras, or input into an audio recorder? What size crew (cameras, lighting, sound, editing)? Sorry for so many questions, but I'm always curious how people produce their videos. Cheers!

Thank you!

For most of the performance recordings a PTZ camera where used, and some older gear, I dont know which brands. 1 Camera operator (not me)

Third and fourth video where just only shot with my S5iiX on a tripod, I had recorded a 6K backup which was used, and zoomed in during post.

1 soundengineer (me), using a Behringer X32 mixing console.

I have it in use for months now and like it very much. Will be useful for you as well Daumenhoch Smilie
I tried it today and you are right, it works perfectly. Starting from now this is just as important as my variable-ND filter for outside filming.

If someone else want to buy this, its the SmallRig 4245 Furry Windscreen for Panasonic Lumix S5 II/S5 II

I should have tried mine in the severe wind up the mountain a few days back but I was freezing cold and just wanted to get over the top and find some shelter from it.

Was it windy when you tried it?

So this is just for protecting the on-board mics?

Thanks! I do have a Rode mic but am generally always too lazy to use it. :D So this deadcat would suit me much better.
Like seemingly everything Lumix and associated products I had to wait more than a month for it, it was a special order only available from a single supplier (photo store).

I'm really impressed by the S5ii mics for outside stuff and ambient noise. Those Rode shotgun mics are for recording talking heads and directional to the lens, I have no use for that.

The furry mouse is in a pocket of my Manfrotto backpack so no forgetting it. The wind should remind me to attach it for video clips, just don't lose your hotshoe cover or leave it permanently attached if you do a lot of video.

I've just ordered the deadcat (and a sunhood) online direct from SmallRig. Looks like it ships from HK?

I don't do much video but I found the onboard mics on the G95 were poor for train videos in windy conditions, so I got the Rode mic for that purpose. But I found it a bit awkward because I am wandering around a train station or yard getting the camera out of the bag for some shots or video, then putting it back in the bag and walking a bit further to another spot then pulling it out again for a quick photo etc. A small deadcat will be much better for this.

That's a good point. I did that on a previous camera, the little Panasonic LX5. I had the clip on EVF for that camera and as a result, lost the hotshoe cover. Panasonic charged me about $45 for a new one!! Z04 Smileys26

I can't compare but S5ii has 24bit 48kHz ADC internal for the mics so greater than CD quality codec depending on the mic quality. Yes I'm a hifi geek also Z04 Smilieparty

I'll actually have to test it more thoroughly and play it back through my hifi separates, could do shortly with the blackbird then the wood pigeon later on... Like clockwork!

BTW I found the wind canceller in the menu to be ineffective hence the furry purchase.

Okay, after all those posts I ordered the damn deadcat. :)

By the way, for any SmallRig item that has been out for a while I can usually get it on Amazon, and much faster than ordering from China. So the deadcat should be here shortly.

By the way, from the S9 images it looks like this might work on the S9 if you can put it in backwards, with the fur facing forward. I don't know if it will fit that way, but I'll check it out when the S9 arrives.

I got two. One I bought at AliExpress, but when I wanted to order the second one shipping was suddenly very expensive.

But i found out that Cameranu.nl also had one on stock, so I bought the second one there.

Amazon.nl didn't have it

It's too small for a cat, it's definitely more mousey. Look at the box it was delivered in

Amazon UK didn't have it, I prefer to support the photography shops anyway.

It won't slide in the full way as hot shoe sockets have 45° tapered corners. You could dremel off the corners taking care not to set fire from the sparks to your taxidermied small rodent friend. :D
