News S5ii firmware update 3.0 - S5iiX update 2.0

Hi everyone, I have updated my firmware on my S5 markII this morning by downloading update file, copying to an SD card and then transferring to camera. Everything seems okay until I received an email a couple hours after from Panasonic with installation instructions. I have never before had to put my camera into P mode and single shot. I don't know if this makes a difference to the camera update, but time will tell. My camera was in Aperture priority and Caf at the time of update.

How to update your LUMIX product?
STEP 1
Download Firmware
  1. Visit our global firmware support site here.
  2. Scroll down and accept the license agreement.
  3. Select the latest firmware for your product and follow the download instructions.
Please note:
  1. The battery must be fully charged.
  2. Put your camera into 'P Mode' and 'Single Shot Shooting Mode' before activating the firmware update.
  3. Do not turn off the camera during the entire installation process.
Well same here. I did my usual update process, pretty much as yours except mine would have been in manual mode and Continuous AF.
No e-mail from Panasonic for me and I just checked the Panasonic Firmware download instructions on the website - no mention there of P Mode and Single AF

I have never had to do this before with a firmware update so I never bothered to read any installation instructions. I just wondered what other people had done.

Yes, I did my update earlier and it appears to have worked fine. I also read the procedure for updating the camera (and I am on the site again checking as I type this) and there is nothing there about P mode and such. I have already tested mine and its fine as far as I can see.

2-1. Procedure for Update
* Use fully-charged battery only, otherwise updating may fail.
* Take off the Battery Grip.
* When updating the firmware of an interchangeable lens, attach the lens to the camera body in advance.
  1. Check that the camera is turned off, and insert a battery.
  2. Insert the memory card prepared in Step 1 into the camera body.
  3. Turn on the camera's power.
  4. Press MENU/SET button.
  5. Select [Firmware Version] in the [Setup] menu.
  6. Select [Firmware Update].

    • x Pressing any buttons
    • x Opening the card door
    • x Removing the memory card
    • x Removing the lens

    • x Removing the cable
  9. Once the firmware update is completed, the camera will automatically turn off and on the power, and will be in a condition ready for shooting.
  10. Check the firmware version according to the "Check the current firmware version" in step 1.
Firmware update is successfully completed if the displayed firmware version of the camera and the firmware version which you had installed are the same.
*In case different firmware version is displayed, please try again from the beginning.

I have just read this version of the update and this is the method that I've used many times. I don't know why Panasonic emailed these instructions in version that they sent me.

I tested animal eye on a 'TV for dogs' video on YouTube showing small birds on a feeder and it's quite impressive, when the bird turned it's head the AF point stayed on the back of the birds head. Picks up dogs just as good.

All this with 70-300 @ 300mm f5.6 in a dark living room with YouTube on.

More testing to do for real though.

Trying all these on TV, human/eye detect works greatIMG_20240422_225730.jpg

I didnt put the camera in P for the update - not sure if it affected anything. One gripe I do have with the s5ii in general though is face/eye detection really doesn't work well on babies. Did my kid's 4 month photos today, and focus still struggled to recognize it was looking at a face.

I was wondering if/how this update might influence battery life ? Of course it should affect it only af-c
