I think the naming is a strategic decision. All Lumix hybrid cameras with EVF in this size and "only" 24MP will have the S5 badge on it. The S1R badge is then for "higher resolution".

Loking at the interview with Frazer and the great video specs of the S1Rii, I doubt that there will be a S1H or S1 successor. Too expensive for Lumix and only marginal benefits over the S1Rii/S5ii. But maybe I am wrong. In my view it would make sense to have a product line of 4-5 different cameras:

1. High MP hybrid professional = S1Rii
2. Low MP hybrid professional = S5iiX
3. Low MP hybrid enthusiast= S5ii
4. Low MP entry content creator = S9
5. Low MP entry hybrid shooter = ???? (S9e - e for EVF?)

He said sooner or later within the coming years. That is like "we will consider it, depending on demand in the future". This can mean in 6 months, in 2 years or never. I am not that bullish on a S1Hii.

What features shall the S1Hii have, which makes it enough different to the S1Rii? At what price point? For which target group? With which sensor?

All the speculation about the S1Hii was based on the assumption, that the S1Rii wll be a photography oriented cameras without great specs for video. Now it turns out it is an excellent video camera with nice to have features for photography. This changes all old scenarios. For me the S1Rii is the merger between S1H and S1R.

Hahahaha I can tell you a couple of them:

- low-pass filter
- nd filter (in camera)
- BRAW internal
- a new and much stronger battery that allows to use all the recording modes without limitation
- time code
- double or triple USB-C (3.2) ports to be able to use SSD drive and charge the camera at the same time
- no rolling shutter
- stacked sensor
- 444 - 14 bit recording (is that posible?)
- 16 stop DR
- ARRI c-log 3
- ...

I don't know, maye they could keep the size of the S1H

Regarding sensors, they should talk with the people of ARRI. The sensor of the Alexa seems to be ver good with up to 17 stop DR.

The price... well, that is the most difficult thing

It's really weird that a site devoted to mirrorless cameras ignores the S series, or misleads at best. Sansmirror has a specs page up for the S1rii, but the bottom of the sheet is all S1r: battery type, body size & weight are all wrong. How does one fail at copy/paste nowadays??

Maybe Thom Hogan has something else to do. He is not paied by us to keep that all up to date

But then it does not belong to the Lumix S-line, because it is a different target group at a much higher price I guess. What where the prices of Panasonics "professional" cameras in the past?

I'd argue that the S1RII is the merger of the S1R and the S1. The S1 was always the better video cam - particularly once you purchased the upgrade. But the S1RII is, as we know, an excellent video cam. So it does not leave much room for an S1II.

So, what could an S1HII be? That was documented above.
