That said, a smaller, lighter f/2.8 that's sharp would have been a nice addition for more causal outings. For $900, I dont see the performance or value, thus far.
You are implying that the lens is not sharp. Have you used it?
Here we go, Johnnie Behiri from cined.com was trying the 24-60 f2.8 and literally says: "what can I say, it is very sharp. Edge to edge this lens is very sharp. If I would"t have made a review, I guess that I would have put an 1/8th of a black pro mist filter just so soften up a little bit..." and later repeats against "it is very very sharp"...

Another comparison between the Lumix 24-60 f2.8 and the Lumix 24-70 f2.8 and yes, they are both very good lenses:
Someone new looking to get into the S1 II can add this lens without breaking the bank (as much). Good timing by Panasonic.Another comparison between the Lumix 24-60 f2.8 and the Lumix 24-70 f2.8 and yes, they are both very good lenses:
We're getting r@ped on pricing here. Yeah I know it's release price, but $1900 AUD is a little bit steep I think.Someone new looking to get into the S1 II can add this lens without breaking the bank (as much). Good timing by Panasonic.
Yes, there is something very wrong about the local price here in Australia! We're getting r@ped on pricing here. Yeah I know it's release price, but $1900 AUD is a little bit steep I think.
I picked up my Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 for about $860 from memory. Brand new, local stock, brick and mortar store, full warranty etc.
Pretty sure I've seen the S Pro 24-70mm on sale for less than the 24-60mm too.
Yeah for sure. The US price has to be factoring in sales taxes and Tariffs, which we are exempt from here, other than our 10% GST, so I get the feeling we're being asked to subsidise their prices. As I mentioned earlier, back to the bad old days I fear.Yes, there is something very wrong about the local price here in Australia!
A conversion of the USD list price: $900 ÷ 0.64 (current exchange rate) = AUD $1,406.
They won't sell many 24-60mm lenses here at $1,900.
Not yet, but I will do it for sure. I think the 24-60mm f2.8 will be available from June 16th. There is still time.Did you order?
And that's a graphic display of why not to push too much at marketing towards photographers. I've already read a number of reviews so far where the main complaint is that the camera is too expensive. For photographers. I think Panasonic might know what they're doing here. Not yet, but I will do it for sure. I think the 24-60mm f2.8 will be available from June 16th. There is still time.
I think in this year 2025 I will upgrade some of my Lumix cameras with one of the new S1s. I really like them. But I don't know which one yet. Maybe I will wait until the Black Friday deals in November. I am not in a hurry. All the features that the Lumix cameras offer are really making a difference with the competition.

Makes sense. I bought the S1RII at launch, as I knew it was going to replace my Leica SL2 body, so selling the Leica paid for 70% of the Lumix. While it's not as elegant in build quality and user interface, it's a better camera, overall. Not yet, but I will do it for sure. I think the 24-60mm f2.8 will be available from June 16th. .You date a body, but you marry the lens and for me thats what the L mount is about.
Between Leica, Lumix and Sigma, we really have an incredible selection of great glass, unless youre a super telephoto aficionado. Sigma is starting to address that now as well.
Agree, with regard to the variety of standard zooms. but for super telephoto, I mean long wildlife and sports lenses. Thats the one area where L mount needs to catch up to Sony and Canon.I 100% agree
That is true. I could imagine that even Panasonic has an equivilant telezoom to the new 24-60/2.8 in their mind. They all have to become more creative now, since the standard focal ranges and zooms are covereed already and get too much competition from Chinese brands.

Good point. The new S1 II line of cameras definitely improve things significantly. Would love Lumix to truly catch up to Sony in the way AF performance.I am sure they will. But they needed better AF and higher speed in the bodies for this first, which they now have. Otherwise nobody would buy the lenses.
Now they can design/launch lenses which are bought, because the Lumix bodies S1II, S1IIe and S1RII can keep up with it in speed.
