Using a 24mm macro extension tube on a windy day. The flower is a Western Columbine.

Snowy Egret
Was out looking for a Great Blue Heron I had spotted on the previous day, but came across this Snowy Egret instead. Magnificent bird. HUGE feet.

I’d say you got a pretty good alternative. ;)

Made some ameture-ish mistakes with the exposure; should have dialed it back a bit to avoid blowing out all those white feathers. I was able to remove most (?) of the color cast that appeared after I had reduced the highlights. White can be tricky if you overexpose even a little, I have learned. Also used C1's new Denoise feature.

Yeah, this is why I habitually under-expose. I’ve generally had better luck recovering shadows than blown highlights - and when I can’t, I’d rather live with dark blobs than light, I have a taste for silhouettes anyway.

This poor canoe has seen better days. ;_;

My grandfather used to take scout/explorer groups on 2-week canoe trips into the Boundary Waters area along the Canada/Minnesota border; he had some decided opinions on canoe construction, aluminum with cast keels all the way.

A few from last weekend’s hike. I’m still getting used to the s9. I normally shoot Fuji and was trying to find an x100vi, but the recent sale on the s9 with 18-40mm was too good to pass up. I’m impressed with the raw files, but I missed focus a lot. My 43 year old eyes and the sun miss the viewfinder.

A "Red-Breasted Sapsucker" woodpecker on my neighbor's utility pole. (A crop of a 24MP RAW.)
