*** July 2024 Image and Video Thread ***

Love the colors and the framing here! They look like they're having a grand time! Congratulations to them on 60 years together :)
Thanks! My friend Don is the lead on the Portland HI-LO Trail project I’m working on, so it’s appropriate he’s partially obscured by a tree branch in the photo.

I chose this location for the photo because it’s their home of 52 years, and his wife has planted all the flowers & trees over decades. A fantastic couple!

Overseas Passenger Wharf at Circular Quay in Sydney.

This was a heavily backlit scene so I had to push the shadows quite a bit.

Nice one!

Looking at the pic… that was just the bridge itself, right? I dunno, this is one of those cases where I think it might have been fine to leave as a silhouette.

I loved seeing your photo, and my wife & I loved being there in 2013! The watercraft, large & small, zipping around Circular Quay are so much fun to watch!

The buildings and people were quite dark too as it was a quick photo while walking so I wasn't as careful with the exposure as I should have been given the backlight. So the camera exposed more for the sky. The shooting envelope of the full frame sensor certainly helps me in this regard, i.e. if I am a bit lazy with the exposure!

Hi Pete. Yes, when the sun is out it's a great place to sit and watch the water traffic with a coffee (and camera) in hand.

It's a busy spot when there is an ocean liner parked there.
Yeh, I'd rather fly to NZ because of the hassle there. But it is fun on a boat on the Tasman Sea, watching all the queazy passengers.

Ha ha!

Our family had a trip to Tasmania many years back and put the car on the big catamaran from Melbourne across the Bass Strait. There were many queasy passengers on that boat! Thankfully I wasn't one of them.

While our relatively small Holland-America cruise ship was in the Tasman Sea at night, there was a terrific thunder & lightning storm, the most intense I've ever experienced. I loved it! Unfortunately, at that time I didn't own a Blackmagic "Production Camera 4K" (it wasn't available yet). Its global shutter sensor would have been perfect for capturing video of the flashing lightning (no rolling shutter banding/tearing artifacts). It's my only regret concerning an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable vacation. :)

I wanted to try my Pentax HD FA 35mm f/2 lens on FF to see how it performs as I've only ever used it on film or as a standard prime on APS-C, so I popped it on my S5 to try wide open.
Really nice Jonathan!

I love Hyrdrangeas.

This month's thread is well overdue for a train! :p

This is the inter-city XPT waiting to depart at Sydney's Central Station. Destination is the regional city of Grafton, 695 kilometres north.

I've been waiting for years to photograph this building which was constructed on the outskirts of Segovia and then seemingly abandoned. Lately it appears to have had some limited use for events but the important thing is that it's no longer fenced off I can get in there with an ultra-wide-angle. I used the 16-35mm f/4 for the first two and the Pentax K "Hollywood" for the third.

I like the second image as it's hard to tell exactly what you're looking at.

Very interesting architecture! I like it!

Is the shell of the building concrete?

Yes, I think it's all concrete
