Hello folks! New S9 owner

Dear all, I have just bought (yet to receive) the S9 kit 18-40 and I have reviewed already most of the forum finding many interesting subjects.

I am a milanese in my 50s and I always liked photography, although I have never felt inclined towards manual controls and big gear. So I ended up practising with premium compacts first (canon and sony) and in latest years with premium photo phones (currently using Samsung S23U) with heavily modified and optimised gcam.

So I felt that the S9 concept of a FF with a contemporary digital approach could allow me to grow in terms of photo (and to a lesser extent video) performance and bring my experience to a new level.

I know that this may sound sacrilegious to most users into real photography but I hope you can accompany me in this FF new world.

I would be delighted to receive your advise on my new gear and I hope to use any feedback you may give to get better

Hi @GastAlf and welcome to the forum.

I have an S9 and the 18-40mm lens along with some other lenses and I have found it to be a fun camera to use.

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy the S9.

I do get what I think you're saying about the S9 appealing to someone who isn't "inclined towards manual controls and big gear"; it's something that's been discussed here, both in the S9 discussions and the Sigma BF discussions. I'm kinda in between; on the one hand, I shoot almost exclusively with manual film-era lenses; but on the other my most-used camera is currently the Sigma fp, with a very streamlined set of controls, and my shooting style is similarly streamlined.

Thanks for welcoming me! I am still waiting for delivery and as of now I am in bed with a bad knee injury so very little possibility to test. But hopefully I will be able to send some Milan shots in a few months

Welcome and I hope your knee gets better... I had two knee surgeries and you have to be very patient...
