According to SAR, there is another lens from Sigma that will be announced soon. According to the admin it will be a stunning fast tele prime, that not yet exists in the E-Mount.

Reliable sources Sigma is going to announce another new STUNNING new lens. I should soon get the final confirmation on the specs...so please be patient...all I can give you for now is THIS hint ;) P.S.: If the specs I have will get confirmed this is an EPIC lens people on SAR will love...also...

What could it be?
A 85mm f1.2?
Something longer, like a 200mm?
Would the 800mm f6.3, that was rumored before the 300-600/4 came out, account as "fast"?
 
Sigma offers a 35/1.2 and 50/1.2 already. A 85/1.2 would fit in this line.

But a 135/1.4 or F2.0 or 200/2.8 would be more sexy/ unusual. Since Sigma likes unusual things, my bet would be a 135 or 200mm tele.
 
Some years ago there where some Sigma patents at SAR with a 1.8/200, 2.0/250 and 2.8/300

Maybe Sigma wants to reinvent the eye of Sauron???

On the other side Mr Yamaki already spoilered the new 1.2/35 at CP+. But this would not be something totally new…
 
It seems that the rumor site wants to disclose at 3pm London time more details about this new Sigma lens.

So we are now in a phase when rumor sites make "events" to disclose leaked information. Interesting.

I wonder what the brands think about this...

As he posted, he didn't want to share information on April 1st, because he wants to be taken seriously. But of course, I don't think it would make any difference for us and even less for the manufacturer.

However, it's kind of his business model and of course he tries to build some arc of tension to get more clicks.

For the brands, I think it's cheap marketing. And Sigma usually doesn't disappoint with it's lens announcements. Panasonic on the other hand has some talent to get to much attentions for underwhelming releases.
 
What a pity. The lens will be unique, of course, but not for everyone. It will be quite cumbersome. I used Canon 200/2.8 and I really liked it, it was quite airy and compact enough.

Sounds interesting. Hopefully it's sharp wide-open. Then, with a 2X TC, it would be a 400mm F3.5. Still quite a bit faster than the 100-400 at that focal length.

Given that Sigma's CEO said he would love to build a professional sports/wildlife camera, their emerging lens lineup certainly is reinforcing that direction.

I didn't want to write, but still, the second point just "killed" It's just ridiculous, I can see that one of the landscape photographers will take a fixed lens with an aperture of f1.8 with him to the mountains to shoot in the open? ) Nonsense.

I will give you three reasons:

  1. Stunning Bokeh Let’s compare a portrait taken with a 200mm f/1.8 and a 200mm f/2.8 lens (such as the Sigma 70-200). At the widest aperture, the 200mm f/1.8 would achieve a depth of field of 6cm at a subject distance of 5m. With the Sigma zoom, you would achieve a depth of field of 10 cm. The shallower the depth of field, the more pronounced the bokeh.
  2. Great for landscapes On my alpine tours,I do use often the 200mm focal length of my Tamron 28-200mm. But the Tamron has f/5.6, while the Sigma is more than three f-stops faster! This results in visibly cleaner images.
  3. Made for sports and wildlife photographers Sports photographers would enjoy an advantage of more than 1 f-stop, especially when shooting indoors. Wildlife photographers (although limited by the shorter telephoto focal length) would get cleaner images and more flexibility in low light conditions."

maybe owl pictures or bats when hunting at night pictures :cool: . There are too many pictures of cats already anyway :)

While it's certainly a stretch to call it a common or obvious landscape lens, it is also true that some of the best lighting for landscape photography happens during the blue hours, so a fast lens can be very helpful. Of course, we have 70-200 F2.8 lenses for that, but then I'll wager good money that the Sigma 200mm F1.8 will be sharper stopped down to F2.8 than a 70-200 F2.8 lens would be when shot wide-open.

But yes, it's a specialty lens for landscape, for sure.
