Another pancake lens for the S9: 7Artisans 35mm f/5.6

There is another affordable pancake lens option in the market for the S9: the 7Artisans 35mm f/5.6 (manual focus).

Here a review from Matti Sulanto with the Lumix S5:

Could be interesting for the S9; good to see more lenses. I've started to look for a 35mm. The Sigma Contemporary is quite a bit larger; but auto focus and variable aperture are big advantages.

A stick of cardboard with a hole punched in it makes more sense than the 26/8. ;-)
I am still waiting for mine. Filled in the online form to claim the "free" lens but haven't heard anything back from Panasonic yet.

Honestly a quality pinhole might be fun! Haha

I remember Thingyfy or however you spell it made that line of pinhole lenses for multiple systems a couple of years ago. Did those ever make it to L Mount?

Exactly. A friend of mine (a retired photography teacher) specialises in pinhole photos.

But no, I don't think there has been a dedicated L-mount pinhole lens. No need when you can make your own.

I just received an email from Panasonic today advising that I should receive the lens within 4 weeks.

It is wild to me that this thing is on backorder. Hopefully that is a good sign for s9 sales.
Yes, it is a bit surprising.

I have already purchased the Sigma 24mm f3.5 to use with the S9 so I wasn't too fussed about how long Panasonic took to send this "free" lens, but it will be interesting to try it out as I haven't used a manual focus lens in decades!

My 26mm f.8 came right away. This was when the S9 was just released, and Panasonic North America must have had plenty of them in stock back then.

My experience has been okay. I used it for everything for a while to see if I could live with manual focus. The bottom line is probably not very often. I may use it for some street photography because the camera is so inconspicuous with it on. But I did get the Sigma 24mm f/3.5 and will usually use that.

I just discovered the pancake 28mm f/2.8 (apsc) Industar 69 lens. In full frame terms that would be a 42mm. Of course manual focus but really tiny. Vintage soviet stuff.

The guy of the video bought it for 30$. And the adapter K&F M39 to leica L- mount for 20$.

I've tried the Industar-69, and wasn't particularly impressed.

Part of that may simply be sample variation; initial production QC on the various Soviet lenses was not terribly consistent to begin with. And the main way to get them in the US is importing them on eBay from former Soviet-bloc suppliers, which added another layer of roulette to the process for me - do you have better opportunities finding them in Europe? To put it another way, I may simply have gotten a bad copy.

(The best luck I've had with Soviet lenses was with a couple of Helios 44-M's bought at local estate sales as part of a Zenit camera kit. One imported Industar-61 that was decent, one that was crappy but provided me with a bit of practice in lens disassembly. A couple of imported Industar-50's, ditto. An imported Jupiter-37 that was pretty good, and a couple of Jupiter-11's that weren't.)

Sigh..... No, 7Artisans, go back and do it again. Properly.

Compact lens, ideally "pancake"
f/2.8 at least
AF
35-50mm focal length

Can't be that hard, other companies have done it.

You're describing the Sigma 45mm C. Not a pancake but it is compact and fits every other criteria here

More compact than that. At half the size it still wouldn't be a pancake lens.
