28mm Leica and Voigtlander M lenses on Lumix S cameras!

I have yet to test the 28mm Skopar on my S1. I hope people realize results on other Lumix sensors may differ.This is the Voigtlander 28mm f2,8 Color Skopar II VM on the S1RII. The adapter is the Light Lens Labs helicoid M to L adapter and gives M lenses a much closer manual focusing capability. I'm happy to see the sensor stack on the S1RII is capable of using this light weight and very compact lens. This makes a great package for every day carry.
The direction Panasonic is taking with their new cameras is encouraging and I'm hoping we will see more options in the future. Perhaps a camera like the S9 in size with a mechanical shutter. I know the World is revolving around the Blogosphere but there are still photographers out there.
I'm still hoping the alliance can build a 28mm f2 smaller and lighter than the $ummicron and give the L mount a chance to flourish...

Just tested the Voigtlander 28mm f2.8 Color Skopar II VM on my Lumix S1. This lens has apparently been optimized for digital sensors. The sharpness on my S1 is not as crisp and consistent as I feel it should be across the field at all apertures. At the minimum focus there is some curvature to the sharpness that is apparent even with focus peaking.
To some extent my opinion may be biased in that I have become accustomed to the higher resolution of the S1RII sensor in the last weeks. It does warrant more testing before I would recommend any wide M lenses with an S1.
My impression is Panasonic has improved the sensor stack with the newer cameras as results show from others with S9 and S5 cameras. These cameras may still not be optimized for M lenses compared to Leica sensors. Hopefully this will be helpful to people when considering using these wide M lenses especially with S1 and S1R cameras. Test before purchase if possible.

Thanks for posting these photos. 35mm f2 Summicron looks very nice with S1RII. I used to own a version III 35mm f 2 Summicron back in the 70's that I loved to use on an M4. Should never have sold that one... I had a lot of rare M lenses back then... Today they are selling at crazy prices. I used the 35mm and the 90mm Summicrons 90% of the time.
I have been collecting mostly Visoflex M lenses the last 10 years. Still good value in some of these classics.
Sergun80 are you still considering the purchase of a 28mm f2.8 Color Skopar II ? I should think it would be great on your S9.

I just went through Bo Helsted, on Flickr and there is a photo of him in the mirror. On his Lumix is a 28mm Summicron that is the R version. That is a lens used for the Leicaflex SL reflex camera. It would need an R to L adapter for use with a Lumix. Not sure he used the M version 28mm in his other photos. Just now see it is the 28mm f2 R ASPH credited.

Interesting topic about the sensor stack.
That is an interesting thread. The comments on the SL3 are also good. My hunch that the S1R II is improved but not up to the Leica standard is similar to the findings there as well. The 1.4mm sensor thickness measurement sounds about right considering the results I have been getting . I have not felt the need to get the thin Kolari modified sensor cover for my S1R II even though Kolari have offered an improved thin filter for it.
The Color Skopar 28mm f2.8 VM II is said to have better correction for digital sensors as well which might have helped with my positive results with the S1RII. My results with the 21mm f3.5 VM were not conclusive enough for me to purchase one.
The unfortunate issue with Panasonic cameras is that they all seemed to be lumped together as being poor with M lenses. My results with the S1 were not acceptable but I am mainly happy with the results with S1RII.
My plan is to get the Kolari full spectrum sensor cover filter changed from the stock one on my S1 so I can to use it for IR and Astro Photography. Unfortunately the only filter they offer at this point is that same thickness as the one supplied originally in the camera.
