TT-artisan-75mm F2.0

The two main advantages of this lens are the price and the aperture ring. It's a similar weight and only 1cm shorter than the already excellent Panasonic 85/1.8 which would be hard to beat on IQ. And you can get amazing bargains on the second-hand market.

The 75mm focal length is perfectly fine, but I am perhaps biased considering the Pentax Limited 77mm was one of my most shot lenses. I would consider this FOV indistinguishable from 85mm in practice.

If I require portability I use my Zeiss Sonnar 85/2.8 and when I need the extra light the Panasonic 85mm is perfect. Of course these optical designs have very different renderings. The TTArtisan is not as compact as the former and has a generic rendering (from what I can see). So it won't fit in my bag. But a low-cost option I can recommend to others is always welcome!

I kind of like the idea of the USB dock in the rear cap. Mainly because it makes the lens design easier and cleaner.
I hate this idea. Lose the cap and you're done! I trade rear caps around on my lenses all the time so I don't need to carry extra with me. This strange decision upsets that routine.

I think this is a bargain at 180 USD. Even the 230€ price tag is cheap. A very good alternative to enter the L-Mount at bargain prices. This is very good for the L-Mount. We need more of these cheaper options to make it easier for less affluent users to enter the L-Mount.

In general, I like the 75mm focal lenght very much. It is a very good compromise between 50mm and the typical 85/90mm portrait lenses. Not too close, but neither too far away to interact with i.e. models.

In L-Mount we have currently the steps 50mm, 65mm, 85mm and 90mm only. The Sigma 65/2.0 DG DN would be the cosest alternative. Same size, same weight. BUT it costs 699€ (street price) vs. 230€ for the TT Artisan 75/2.0. Of course the Sigma 65 will be optically better. But that is almost 3x the price.

I almost never use my Sigma 65mm because for my use cases, it is too close to the 50mm and for people too "clinical" sharp. I would much a 75mm FFL. 85/90mm is again a step too far in many situations, although I absolutely love my Sigma 90/2.8 DG DN. But a 75mm FFL is more versatile. I would rather take a less "perfect" 75mm than a "perfect" 65mm with me.

Would be great combo with a 28mm FFL or a trinity of 28/2.0, 50/2.0 and 75/2.0.

I think Sigma is the Zeiss nowadays. It is not cheap anymore, but wth almost all lenses bets in class or among best in class. The Sigma i-series is almost perfect and I wonder why some of them did not get the batch "Art". Maybe a marketing decision.

But this leaves space in the entry level price category, which every system needs nowadays to seduce smartphone users. TT Artisan and others can fill the price gaps, which Sigma, Panasonic and Leica do not want to offer.
75mm is what we were used to when putting the full frame cheap slr 50mm on our aps-c dslr’s back in the early 2000’s

Same. I take my camera and 2 or 3 lenses in my bag when I go wandering. As I take the lens off the camera, the cap from the replacement lens goes on that lens. So there's no lose caps flapping around in the camera bag to get lost. Only way I could see it working is if I put the USB dock one aside, and bought another generic/standard one.

You are headed to China? A friend traveled to China last year and he really enjoyed it. He describes it as safe, clean, very friendly, and really inexpensive. He immigrated to the US from Taiwan over 40 years ago, so he speaks the language, which is a big advantage. He says he saw NO other foreign tourists while he was there; he went to four different cities. About the safe and clean part, he said it was not always like that, but there are cameras everywhere, which initially bothered everyone with big brother watching. But over time they all seemed to get used to it and modified their behavior. He paid for transportation and hotels up front, including meals at the hotels. But all the attractions and city transportation are extremely low cost. He said in the three weeks he was there the total he paid for himself and his wife was under $100 US. This is a guy who has travelled all over the world. (He is a tax accountant, and after every tax season they travel for vacation.) At the end of this trip he and his wife looked at each other and agreed to go back to China at the end of this tax season. I'm not likely to go there, but if I did I'd like to visit all these new lens companies.

Yeah, that’s how I’d see it - no different than the USB dock Sigma shipped with its lenses, store it for when you need to do updates. Generic caps identical to Panasonic caps, except for the label, are easy to find on eBay; I got a bunch of them to use on my adapters.

Yes. Yes I am, with the Wife, who is of Chinese origin. I've been a number of times, thoroughly enjoy every trip. We've done a fair bit of wandering around there, and spent a LOT more than that, even traveling as locals rather than overseas Western tourists. I go a lot of places where Westerners are not really supposed to, I won't say how, but I've certainly seen what tons of people don't get the chance to.
I understand the lack of foreigners seen for sure. I understand a bit how rock stars and celebrities must feel at times. On multiple occasions been walking down the street with the Wife, to have young mothers putting their babies in your arms, so they can snap photo's with the Whitey. Or get mobbed by groups of giggling, chattering school girls, all madly snapping away with their phones as they take turns to stand beside me to get their photo taken. It's pretty funny at times.
Anyway, here's a link to a thread I've been posting to on another, very new and small site. It's camera brand/format agnostic, a spin of from POTN (Photography on the net) of which I was a long time member until the owner got really really crook, closed the site, and apparently died a few months after. Longest I've been a member of any forum. I actually started this thread on another site that I was a long time member of -about 10 years I think, until I bought a Full frame camera, and suddenly became the devil incarnate for being a traitor to the format. Extreme insecurity is real. Very real.
Anyway, here's the link, I'm still adding to it

Yes. If you are worried about losing the USB dock/lens cap, just get a generic one and keep the USB dock in the box.
The generic ones are like $1-2 each and you can buy them easily on eBay, Aliexpress..etc
