Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary (I-Series)

I never had issues with mine and I have it already for more than 2 years.

Depending on where you live and how you store your equipment, moisture is always a problem. Even with sealed lenses. Sealing is useless, if you go from very cold outside into the warm inside a house for example. Or if the region where you live is very humid, like in some areas in Asia. Then you need to take extra steps to store your equipment.
Good to know. Thankfully, I live in Central Asia where it's fairly dry but dust is a big problem. We've had some very bad air quality days where I live.

I noticed this in some reviews- the lens produces some halation almost like a mist filter. I'm actually leaning towards getting this rather than the 50 1.8 as a light walk around lens. The optics look very very sharp and I'm really digging the halation/glow look
If you also want video performance I think this L series all have significant focus breathing hence they're more accepted as photo only lenses. Also this series has no weather sealing except for a mount rubber gasket but none elsewhere like ART series and Lumix have between barrels . If "dust is a big problem" where you live then weather sealing should be a factor.

The halo effect on that shot was added in PP.

Yeah this is a tough call. The sigma 1.4 has better sealing and is wider but at the cost of being twice the weight but around the same price used. The Lumix 35mm seems to have mixed reviews online - some say it's not very sharp or contrsty. Some say it's excellent. Josh Cameron, for example, says it's one of his favorites which coming from a guy who has access to every non-leica lens on the mount, seems like high praise. The sigma seems perfect for the metal/clicky construction, size, and the sharpness and contrast seem excellent. The lack of internal sealing might be a con but most people say the construction seems very solid.

For me, focus breathing wouldn't be a big issue as I have the 24-105 for dedicated video. The 35 would be more a street photography/documentary/compact edc type lens where having something fast focusing(and accurate), sharp, and capable of low light would be great. I'd also likely use it for photos of the family and kids.

Judging by images (this is how I choose a lens) the Lumix 35mm looks excellent and it would be my choice.

I have the 24-105 f4 but the 35mm gives you f1.8 and ~300g use for video but obviously fixed at 35mm... I have yet to try a ff prime for video myself.

I don't care about metal construction as Lumix have excellent build. Look at the comparisons to the Leica 35mm f2 Summicron with the copied from Lumix optical design.

I mostly had metal lenses in Pentax, don't miss them, the Lumix 24-105 and 70-300 I own are better built without wobbly barrels.

I'm lucky that I could physically try either lenses you are thinking of in my local shop.but know most can't any longer.

I'd look up as many flickr images or/and video footage with them and not rely on someone's blind opinion.

You are probably right. I might end up getting the Lumix 35mm instead. It is slightly lighter and a bit cheaper too (used) plus if I got the 85mm, they'd be a matching set

In the UK the Lumix is approximately the same price, £10 difference.

If I lived in the desert I'd definitely be going for weather sealing, that fine sand gets into the finest places, just look at what the camels there had to do :D

It was weather sealing on lower end Pentax cameras/lenses back in 2012 which swayed me over the other DSLR brands which completely lacked WR. Here in Ireland it's more rain, pollen and sea spray from storm photo/videography I need it for. Even tiny insects can make their way in.

For me the 35mm f1.8 is the best Lumix f1.8 that I have used. In this order: 35mm (outstading) , 85mm (excellent) , 24mm and 50mm (very good). I have not used the 18mm. And the 100mm this is 2.8.

Alright, I think I'm sold . Ive heard people love their 18mm 1.8s but thinking that's mostly people who vlog which I don't do.
