Rumors Sigma 24-105mm f/2.8 on the way??

Earlier today I saw a rumour of this lens and I can't remember the last time I saw a Sigma lens rumour that didn't turn out to be true. Apparently weighing (and surely costing) less than Canon's, it's to be announced in September.

Anyone else seen anything on this?

Signa 28-105mm f2.8, not 24mm:

I'm generally happy with the Lumix 24-105 and the f4 doesn't bother me. It could be a little sharper, but it's not a deal breaker. I suspect a 24-105 f2.8 will be big and heavy, so even if it's sharper I can't see me going for it.

It would be a 28-105 f2.8

I would be much more interested in a slightly longer lens, like the Tamron 35-150. It just needs to be much shorter than the 70-200. So a small 50-135 would be a perfect lens for portrait, fashion and people. Of course the 35-150 would be better, but the Tamron is a small tank and a 50-135 could be significantly smaller and lightweight. Additionally the Samyang gets very different tests in terms of picture quality…

I also have Lumix 24-105, f4 is plenty for FF and high ISO performance of S5ii. 7 stops dual O.I.S also helps with still stills like interiors. The bokeh is lovely and really don't need or want more creamed out. Plus it has excellent 0.5x macro which Sigma doesn't have.

Sigma will be a kilo with the lens hood, so unless f2.8 really is necessary I'd rather not heave that around for bragging purposes only.

I've even seen great MilkyWay astro landscapes done with 24-105 f4

It will be very intersting to see the final differences between the Art 24-70 and the new 28-105. I think it will depend very much on the situation if the 24 or the 105 is the best solution for the job.

The loss of 4mm at the wide end, the extra weight, size and cost - I'll stick with my 24-70/2.8.

A 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 would have been a lot more useful and I could see myself using that for times when range and small size were more important than speed.
