Had some unique meteorological conditions the other night, which allowed me to see stars concurrently with lightning strikes due to a gap in the clouds. So, I setup the camera with Live View Composite on, and let it do it's thing. For the most part, all I got was a handful of images with cloud-to-cloud lightning, but the last image I captured is shown below. I never thought about capturing star trails in conjunction with lightning strikes before, but it sure turned out great!
This was with the 18-40. Exposure was set to 5 seconds, ISO 400, f/4.5. Overall integration time was perhaps 3 or 4 minutes - not sure exactly.
