Yesterday I received my new Sigma 70-200, I could not resist the latest offer ;-) There where special rebates last weekend from several dealers in Germany (I bought at FotoKoch) and then there is the actual Cashback from Sigma too. So I got the lens for 1230€ new...
The first tests (200mm) are amazing, the resolution in the middle is even in combination with highres shot fantastic and the corners are good even wide open. I tested also the combination with the 1.4x Sigma converter and the loss in the middle is only minimal. The corners are also good.
Now my question to the forum: With my Olympus the IBIS/OS system is active by half press of shutter button. If you don´t press the button anymore it works for some more seconds and then the OS stops (I assume for saving energy). If you hold the finger on the release button it will not stop.
With my S1R and the Sigma it looks like the OS is working all time, the stabilization will not stop until you switch off the camera. I found no option to stop the stabilization after some time, only to switch off the OS using the switch at the lens.
Is this normal?
I assume this will use quite a lot of battery if the OS runs all the time when the camera is turned on.
Any comments? Is this changing with newer camera models?
BTW: The stabilization works great, I tested 0.5 up to 1s with good results
