The fall colors are amazing in Colorado right now, but, unfortunately, I’m going to miss them this year. And it looks like a windstorm is coming tomorrow. :(

So, here is an F36 sunburst from the 28-200 instead. 46mm, S1RII, base ISO.

The annual Transport Heritage Expo is on this weekend in Sydney. I wandered around for a few hours with the S5ii, 24-105mm and 14-28mm.

Here are a few of the first photos I've processed.

1. Old and new locomotives. On the left is a brand new Pacific National 94 class freight locomotive (UGL Rail model C44ACi) while on the right is an XPT power car (passenger loco) which first entered service in 1982. It was possible to get into the cabs of these two locos but the queues were too long.

2. AEC Regent III bus. This double decker bus entered service in 1953 and was withdrawn in 1976. It has undergone full restoration and is now in the care of the Sydney Bus Museum who operate it on a number of event days each year.

Here’s a few from my inaugural road-trip with the Rivian. These are all from Valley of the Gods in Bears Ears (Utah). Truck glamor shots aside, Valley of the Gods is amazing if you value solitude and quietness. While you’ll never been fully alone, it can be perfectly quiet in the mornings and can give a wonderful sense of peace and solitude that are much harder to find, say, in a National Park. I went back sever times and have a few other shots to post later.

And yes, I am completely enamored with the Rivian. Of course, you have to “embrace the charge” while on road trips, but I’ve already met some very interesting people while fast-charging on the road, and at this point in my life, I like the breaks from driving anyway.

Great photos. Number 2 is my favourite.

The Rivian looks great. I don't know much about them but saw a news article just yesterday saying that they were intending to launch the car in Australia after they build a right-hand drive version for the UK market.

It’s a rather beguiling (for me) combination of design, technology, a seemingly inexplicable ability to perform superbly both on-road and off-road, and mind-warping acceleration. And this is just the dual-motor version. They also have tri- and quad-motor versions <— couldn’t afford. It will be interesting to see how they are received by the off-road crowd in Australia.

Congratulations on the Rivan. I like the looks of the truck, but haven’t been enamored with the SUV, so I like your choice. I’ve driven electric for the last six years and fully enjoy it.
 
Super new truck George. Like Charles, I've been driving an EV for the past six years - two Teslas (but never a third, at least while Musk is in charge!!) and now a BMW. There's so much misinformation and hate around EVs; I just don't get it. Sure, they don't suit everyone, but they are definitely a step in the right direction from an environmental perspective and whilst they have their limitations, I think most drivers (at least in Europe) can live quite happily with one.

Thanks guys. It’s taken me a while to get an EV, but I’ve always been a believer. Mine has a huge battery pack (Rivian calls it “Max”) and that combined it’s off-road prowess should get me to places all over the west & southwest. It’s a little rough right now in the US with the dis-investment in infrastructure & cultural backlash, and several manufacturers are withdrawing at least some some of their EV entries, but overall I’m OK with it. EVs will need to make it on their own accord here, but I believe that they will and ultimately be the better for it. We shall see, and hopefully Rivian thrives. With the R2 coming out and being a legit competitor to the Y - but without the baggage -I can see good things for them going forward.

Yeah, there are several advantages to EVs. And I like what I've heard of Rivian; my sister lives in their HQ town, and they do a lot for the community.

My only real problem (aside from the Muskovites) is the EV boosters who try to claim they're for everyone, when there are still people who they aren't suited for. I live in a condo, so there's no way for me to charge at home; I take a fair number of long trips, long enough that I'd have to charge in the middle (sis lives about 640km away, ferex); and charging times are much longer than the 5 minutes a gas stop takes.

Hey guys, I've been MIA for a while now with travel and busy with little kids. I just haven't been shooting much. Made myself get my s5ii out while doing some watering in the garden and was surprised to capture this Hawk Moth in my own yard.

I had to merge two images in Lightroom because I was very close to this cute young bull and one image wasn't enough to cover his wide head. Again the Lumix 100mm f/2.8 Macro.
